Obituary of Melanie Ruth Gilbart

MELANIE RUTH GILBART

August 24, 1978 (Toronto) - August 12, 2024 (Wasaga Beach)

Dear family and friends,

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Melanie's passing on August 12, 2024.

Reunited with her father, John, she is survived by her mother Lilla (Potter) Gilbart and her sister, Sarah (Gilbart) Cooke.

Melanie is Auntie to Reagan, Olivia and Charlotte Cooke; Niece to Jean (Potter) Narbonne; Cousin to Douglas, Kelly, Benjamin and Logan Gilbart; Katherine, Rob, Ben and Chloe Mirchin; Joanna, Jason and Abigail Detamore.

Melanie, known fondly as Mel or May, was shining, bright, loving, and friendly.   She effortlessly lit up a room.  Although she never liked much of the spotlight, she was charming and told so many very funny stories.  She had the ability to make anyone she knew feel heard and important.  This deep empathy extended to her years of caring for animals in her professional life. 

The family will be having a private Celebration of Life but would encourage donations to be made in Melanie's honour to the following organizations:

East Village Animal Hospital, 1777 Dundas St., London ON N5W 3E6, 519-455-3824, a high volume, spay/neuter clinic serving low-income and rescue pets.

We would very much appreciate the continued sharing of stories and pictures in the days ahead.
