I live on Redpatb Drive behind Dylan Way. I met Stephen, April, Ollie, and Wesley when I was on one of my walks with my dog. I will never forget the day that I walked around the block with Stephen, Ollie, and Wesley. They were so excited to be picking up worms on that rainy day. Since they moved away, I have thought about them every time I walked by their former house. The boys were so full of joy, and I will always remember them. I am so sorry for your immeasurable loss.

Dear Diane, Keith, and family,
What words can possibly convey the shock and then heartfelt sorrow upon hearing the news that April and Oliver had died so tragically.
I can only offer you my sympathy, prayers and thoughts at this terrible time,
I remember April as a beautiful bright young woman deciding what she might study while she worked briefly at UHN one summer, and at that time she also had a boy friend whom she was very interested in. His name was Stephen.
Diane would relay Aprils, life events, the birth of her sons, and career achievements as any proud mom and grandma would, and we were happy to share in this good news.

It was such a pleasure to get to know April and work with her over the past year. She was such a kind and generous person. Having boys the same age, and living in the same neighbourhood, we shared many stories and spoke often about the activities and camps we were registering our boys for – and it was such a nice surprise to find them on the same hockey team this year. Sending my deepest condolences to April and Oliver’s family.
I met April over 25 years ago when we were teenagers working at the Harvey’s/Swiss Chalet restaurant in Georgetown. We hit it off right away and she has been my best friend ever since.
We attended the same high school together, the same university, worked together at several different part time jobs while we were students and we were also roommates in Ottawa.
We travelled together, shopped together, we had endless slumber parties, attended events together during our university years and beyond and we would go out and dance all night with the rest of our friends.
April had the best sense of humour, and we would often joke around and laugh so hard we would cry.
Even though I have been living in Australia these past years and we didn’t get to see each other nearly as often as we would have liked, we always kept in close contact. Chatting over whats app almost every day about everything and anything. From our careers, politics, fashion to our families and pets to reminiscing about all the fun and crazy memories we made together over the years and talking about creating new ones.
To know April was to love her.
She was the most beautiful soul and when she smiled it wasn’t just a ray of sunshine, it was like the whole sun was shining down on you.
April was so warm, positive, charismatic, intelligent, funny, creative, loving, caring and generous. She had the biggest heart and was so kind, always thinking of others and putting her family first.
Her son Oliver had her big heart, her kindness and creative flair. He was such a sweet boy and wonderful older brother to Wes. I got to spend some time with April, Steve, Oliver and Wes last summer at their home in Ottawa when I was in town. We all had a fun time in their pool.
April was always my biggest supporter and most trusted advisor. Wise beyond her years, she always gave the best advice and encouragement and was always there for her family and her friends. We were born just 15 days apart and I always looked up to her like an older wiser sister.
She excelled in everything she did, from her studies at university, to her impressive career in law, to her relationships with family and friends to her role as a wife to Steve and Mom to Oliver and Wes and her dog Kunu and in her newfound love for volleyball and tennis.
I was lucky enough to spend time with April and her beautiful family just a few weeks ago, shortly after I arrived in Canada with my husband Patrick. We had a lovely turkey dinner and visit at her home in Toronto with Steve and the boys.
April truly was the most wonderful person. I am so grateful to have had her in my life and I will forever cherish every memory I have of her.
I will love and miss April forever and she will always be in my heart.
I hope April and Oliver’s family find strength and comfort in the memories they share. I am thinking of you always.

My sincerest condolences to April and Oliver's family.
I have known April for 20 or so years. In many ways, she was alongside me for big "firsts" in my life. We were student colleagues and then became close friends in University. She and I were roommates when I first moved out of my parents' home. She was a bridesmaid at my wedding. Oliver was born weeks before my daughter, Aoife, so I remember many late night texts brainstorming how we could get babies to eat and sleep.
April brought great joy to my life. I loved and admired her fun and enthusiastic outlook, her wit and wisdom, and, of course, her heart. To me, she dared go and do what many would/could not, and she did it with gusto. She had an intuitive sense of just what to say (and when) to encourage others (like me) even when they did not know they needed it. And, she had such a wonderful, memorable laugh that I could somehow hear through text message.
My family, including my daughter Aoife, had the pleasure of getting to know Oliver, who seemed, in many ways, to be like his mum: incredibly bright, thoughtful, creative and fun. In the ways April inspired me, I think Oliver inspired Aoife. I recall when she was intimidated by the idea of building Lego on her own. After an afternoon building with Oliver, she suddenly figured it out.
Through April, I have been blessed to get to know Steve and Wesley, whom I know she adored. My heartfelt wish is that you are able to find peace in memories and with the family you both share.
While thinking of April and Ollie will always bring tears of sadness, they are also tears of joy because I feel so fortunate that April picked me as a friend in her life, and that I got to see Oliver grow, even if the time was cut short. There are a small number of people I have encountered in my life who have changed me. April was one of them. I love you and miss you.

I had the pleasure of getting to know April over the past year at work. Never has someone that I worked with for such a short time left such an impact on me. She was outstanding professionally, but nothing can match what an amazing person she was. She truly brightened everyone's day. She joined our firm volleyball team and was a star. I think she was a star at everything she did. I am sure her son Oliver was a star as well. Condolences to Steve and Wesley and the rest of the family. My heartfelt condolences to all devastated by this tragedy.
April burst into my life at work like a ray of sunshine. I first met her 15 months ago when I had the privilege of encouraging her to join Foglers' privacy group. For over a year, April blessed me and our group not only with her intelligence, dedication, and deep understanding and passion for privacy law, but also with her generosity, humour, and kindness. In her short time at Foglers, she left a big footprint and made many friends.
I got to meet, and through April's eyes, learn about her beloved, thoughtful, and supportive husband Steve. Chatting with April almost daily about our work and respective families, I felt I also got to know (at least a little) April and Steve's vibrant and cherished sons, Ollie and Wes, including Ollie's artistic talents and his profound affection for Wes. It was clear to me that April was as loving and loveable a wife to Steve as she was a mom to Ollie and Wes.
Inconceivable is the fathomless grief that has stricken the families and friends of April and Ollie by their senseless, tragic passing. My heart breaks. And my heart is broken. You're all in my thoughts and prayers. May you find some comfort during these darkest hours in your happy memories of April and Ollie.

April was an extremely close friend and colleague of mine for almost 20 years, and I had the privilege of working alongside her in multiple organizations. We often sought each other out for advice, support and just to have a laugh. As I am certain many others can attest, her timing was impeccable in calling you just when you most needed a lift or shoulder. I owe much to April, including the inspiration for my current job. My family and I are extremely fortunate to have been graced with April, Steve, Ollie and Wesley’s company just over a month ago for a beer and laughter filled party. Dear Stoker and Gougeon Families,
April was a rare combination of exceptionally personable, professional, and sincere, even joyous. It is a commonplace to say that a person touched or connected with everyone she encountered, but in April's case, it is the simple truth. I was so lucky to meet her shortly after she joined Foglers and felt, like so many others here, that we had struck up a friendship that would blossom.
I was lucky enough to work with and learn from April. I was so excited for her new adventure and delighted that she would stay close, even if her departure meant we would not be able to continue working closely together.
In every one of our conversations, Oliver, Wesley, and Stephen featured prominently and her loss and Oliver's is devastating. My condolences to both of your family on this terrible loss.

I was lucky enough to work with April over the past year. She sparkled. Her eyes smiled. She was kind and caring. She was creative as was evidenced by the balloon arch she created for the children's Christmas party at our office. She jumped at the opportunity to be involved with the event for the kids. Words fail to capture the sadness and tragedy of losing April and Oliver. I hope that there is some comfort in knowing that April and Oliver were special to all those who knew them. I am sending you so much love and prayers at a time when words fall short. I am holding you all so close in my heart, and in prayer.
April was such a beautiful soul…and anytime I was around April she would make me laugh. She had the best sense of humour. And her easy going nature made everyone around her feel so comfortable. She would always bring a smile to whom ever was standing beside her. Beautiful from the inside out, I will cherish our memories together.
The last memory we had together was on Cape Breton Island with so many of the young cousins together on “Pirate Island.” We spent the day boating, water skiing, hunting for treasure and playing together. This day will always hold a dear place in my heart. Ollie was so adventurous and fearless that day in exploring water skiing…he just radiated pure joy. Silas didn’t want to leave Ollie and Wesley’s side that day. He kept pleading to spend more time together with them.
When I was looking back on my text history with April, the last text message she sent me said, “I love you.” Those three words can help summarize April, a person who spread love wherever she went.
I am so deeply sorry, you have to say goodbye to April and Ollie so early. They will always be loved and remembered, and their memories will forever be cherished.

I am gutted. I had the privilege of interviewing April before she joined our firm, Fogler Rubinoff, working with her once she came over, and co-authoring papers. We chatted often. In forty years as a lawyer rarely have I met someone who was both so gifted as a professionally and so warm and wonderful personally. She was a light. The tragedy of her and Ollie's loss is deeply painful . I cannot imagine the devastation that Steve and Wesley are experiencing. The world needed more April, but now we have lost her and Ollie. To the Stoker and Gougeon family, please accept our heartfelt sympathy for you and your family during this incredibly difficult time. It was with shock and a heavy heart that we heard about the sudden loss of April and Oliver.
From the moment I was introduced to April, I was drawn by her warm demeanor and infectious smile. Whenever she talked about her boys she just radiated with happiness. She gave me words of encouragement (and an abundance of chocolate) during my pregnancy and newborn mom stage. Li and I will forever cherish the time we spent at the cottage together and at each other's homes. Everyone who knew April, knew that she was the epitome of a wife, mother, and what a friend should be.
Oliver took after his mom. At such a young age he was already such an empathetic, kind soul. He played the role of the responsible older brother and like his mom, adored giving Mason hugs.
We are honored and blessed to have known April and Oliver. Words of sympathy feel inadequate in expressing our grief and sorrow for a loss so great. Sending a warm embrace and all my love to Stephen and Wesley during this difficult time.
