Obituary of George Luzerne Williamson
It is with deep sorrow and much love, that we mourn the passing of Lu Williamson of Oshawa, Ontario on March 2nd, 2023 surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.
Lu was a devoted husband of Gerrie Rupke-Williamson for 13 years and predeceased by wife Brenda (nee Bell) of 40 years in 2007. Loving father of Steven (Jenn) and Phil (Alana). Stepfather to Richard (Julie), Jodie (Andy) and Matthew (Laura). Lu was a proud Papa to Gracie, Gavin, Sierra, Reece and Justin, Papa Lu to Katelin, Josiah, Jacob, Adam, Marcus, Ryan, Audrey and Leah whom he all adored. Parents Ray and Alita (nee Moore) Williamson predeceased Lu. Brother to John predeceased (Ruth), Lachlan predeceased (Pia), Gordon (Deb), Laurie (Joan), Alan predeceased (Wynne). Dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Ruth and Jeanne, brother-in-law John Schievink (Nellie) and his extended family and friends.
Lu was the youngest officer hired by the Oshawa Police Force in 1964. He spent his career as a decorated front-line officer and retired from Durham Regional Police Services in 1999 after 35 years of service. Lu was a director of the Police Association for 30 years.
Lu’s true love was his family and friends. His big smile and bear style hugs were always a welcome sign. Family celebrations were always a competition as to which brother had the best pie. Lu was always in the stands, sometimes in uniform supporting his boys in hockey. Any mechanic issues or renovations you needed Lu was there to help, swear words to follow. A night of playing cards, Lu was there. Lu loved his motorcycles and after retirement the Goldwing allowed him to return to the open road. Countless cottage weekends were enjoyed with family and friends. Many boat rides, taking his kids out waterskiing and attempts to be an angler were tried but unsuccessful. Peace and quiet of cottage life was where Lu was able to relax and enjoy the company of anyone who would visit.
