Obituary of Anna Apolonia van den Hoven

Anna Apolonia van den Hoven

(nee Vermeulen)

Passed away at Scarborough Centenary Hospital on Sunday September 25th, 2022 at the age of 86 years.

Beloved wife of the late Leonardus “Leo” van den Hoven.  Loving mother of John (Marissa), Leon (Judy), Neil (the late Kelley) and Jacqueline.  Cherished Oma to Kristen, Daniel, Kurtis and Spencer.

Our Mom was 4 when WWII started.  She and her sister would huddle under the bed when V2 rockets were flying overhead.  Her mother died when she was 14 so she had to run the household.  Mom moved in with her aunt at 17 after her father remarried.  She worked in the office at Vroom & Dreesmann, earning the equivalent of a CA going to school while working.  She immigrated to Canada on the SS Groote Beer in 1959.  By 1966 she was married with 4 children under the age of 6 and went deaf.  Despite some hardships, she prospered here in Canada raising her 4 children and later enjoying her 4 grandchildren as their Oma.  She was the pillar of our family and will be greatly missed.
