The Rose
Once there was a rose bud
growing on a vine
Happily it grew there
into a rose sublime.
One day God plucked the rose
and took it to his home
He put it in His garden
to bloom forever.

Carole's life was amazing and frankly inspiring. Her life was so rich and full, she did so many things. I did hear her talk of flying though, and perhaps it was one thing still on her list. Here's to the most enthusiastic pilot in heaven!

Our sincere condolences to Derek and Carole's family.
I have known Carole for a few years, volunteering with Tennis and Golf. Carole was a joy to be around always smiling..
She found a great partner in Derek and we all attended some amazing events together. It will not be the same now she has left us.
We pray for her soul and pray god gives strength to Derek in his solace. to face the upcoming journey without Carole.
Her everlasting memory will always remain with us all.
God Bless

Our condolences to Derek and to Carole's family.
We have been friends with Carole for over 50 years. First while she and Epp worked together teaching, then when we moved to the USA, and she visited us in Florida and for skiing in Colorado. She always lit up rooms and livened up conversations when she was present. Her positive mindset and infectious laughter will always be fondly remembered.
The picture is one she sent us from her travels to India, how appropriate that she would "take possession" of the Taj Mahal.

I have so many wonderful memories of Carole. There are so many things I am going to miss about Carole such as her beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, hearing her voice and her generosity to myself and so many others. I am going to miss the times we spent together at the Royal Canadian Military Institute (RCMI) especially History Nights where we would gather with friends in the Long Bar before the evening presentation and for a glass of wine afterwards. We had some wonderful birthday lunches with friends at RCMI as our birthdays were only a few days apart. When the Westminster Kennel Club show was on we would be texting back and forth trying to guess which dog would win and Carole was usually right.
My deepest condolences to Derek and Carole's family. Rest peacefully my dear friend, you are missed.

I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Carole through our work together on the board at the College of Dietitians of Ontario, and we soon discovered our Bowmanville connection. Carole was smart and funny and we enjoyed stories of her friends, family, work, and travel. When we finished our terms at the College, I fondly remembered her for her command of high heels and frequent successful acquisition of rush tickets for the theatre :). Rest In Peace, Carole.

I met Carole in 1999 at Eastdale Collegiate. We have mutual friends and became good colleagues quickly. When I left to go to TDSB, Carole, who had retired, followed me and became part of the supply staff at Sir. Robert L Borden, a school in Scarborough with challenging students. She was a beloved supply teacher and sought after as she was compassionate, dependable and fun!!!
The kids and staff loved her. After I retired, Carole encouraged me to volunteer at the National Ballet. Carole gave of her time generously; from the arts to sports to charities, Carole could be counted on to help. The AGO, the National Ballet, The Liberal Party, Tennis Canada, Youthlink, Walk for Animals - so many places Carole contributed. She was a tireless worker and curious about everything!
Throughout the pandemic, I would get a call from Carole every so often. She was managing with her outdoor visits with friends to Tim Horton’s plus walking in the city. Recently, I was so fortunate to see Carole regularly. We volunteered one night together at the ballet, she attended musical events at my church and recently, a lecture series on the History of Jazz where she had reconnected with a former teacher from Ryerson. Two weeks before she passed she told me about running 5 Marathons. I had known she was athletic but no idea about that! The day she passed away, we were at the lecture together and planning to have lunch the following week. I see her beautiful smile, hear her laugh and imagine her perky walk. Carole, thank YOU for being such a positive figure. I will miss you dear friend.

My first memory of meeting Carole is her walking expertly in heels through the (unexpected) snow in a parking lot in England. There are just so many wonderful memories of Carole; when the ice storm happened in Toronto during Christmas 2014, it was pretty late in the evening and Carole looked out the window and exclaimed “I can see the Northern Lights.” She was adamant! We ran to the window but couldn’t see anything straight away and then “they” appeared again except it was the electrical power line than had fallen down and there were blue sparks. I remember we laughed so much.

Carole, my dad and I went to Greece on vacation. Our last night together, we went to the grand opening of a restaurant. Carole remembered something, got up, said she had to run back to the hotel and she would be right back. It was not a short trek from the restaurant to the hotel and then back... and of course I felt I would have preferred her company during that time over what ever it was she absolutely had to go and get for the occasion. All the way from Canada, Carole brought sparklers, one of my favourite things and she decided to present them with our desert. There was no particular celebration, other than celebrating the three of us getting together in Greece. This is how thoughtful of a woman Carole was. This is how much she valued others and life.
This is so sudden and painful to feel this loss. It is difficult not to think about all the things I wish I had said and didn't say and look into my memories to see if I expressed enough to Carole how much I care about her. There are so many things I adore about Carole that I'm going to miss so much. The excitement in her eyes, that she let things brush right off of her shoulder and kept herself and others uplifted. The cards and gifts from both her & my dad, and separately from Stella, I actually really adored this. I'm going to miss the Christmas's and the boat with Carole so much. Carole's thoughtfulness and making everything special. Her sense of purpose, living her life to the fullest, and loving her life so much. Her sense of pride and accomplishment.
Carole was THE model citizen, volunteering, participating in events, showing up for people in the most thoughtful ways, I don't know how she found the time to do everything. She wasn't perfect, but she was awesome. I pray that she knows how much she meant to me as a role model, and the woman that she has been for my dad has meant the world to me. I am so sad to lose her, and I'm so sad for my dad's loneliness without her. Losing Carole is truly devastating, and I pray that God has surrounded her soul with everyone's love for her.

One of the best memories that I have is travelling with Carole to Sicily. We were following the instructions of the GPS and it told us to turn right to get to our hotel. But the street was one-way and we were going the WRONG way. All the Italians were yelling and gesturing at us, especially the guy driving a truck right at us. Luckily, there was no collision. But, backing up the car was a sight to behold!
I will miss travelling with Carole. Rest In Peace, my friend!
