(nee Higgon)
August 28, 1942 – October 10, 2021
The family of Berta Avery sadly announce her passing at Lakeridge Health in Bowmanville, Ontario on October 10, 2021
Beloved wife and soulmate of the late Lawrence. Loving mother of Richard (Tammy) and Michelle Snowden (Mike). Cherished Grandma of Wyatt Avery (Amanda), Morgan Avery and Charlotte Snowden. Loved daughter of the late William David and Roberta Edith (Lambert) Higgon. Sister of David Higgon (Laurel) and Heidi Wilker (Don).
Berta had a long and influential career as a kindergarten teacher for 35 years, primarily at Adelaide McLaughlin and Woodcrest Public Schools in Oshawa.
Her lifelong joy for music was shared via the piano as a music teacher, and singing with the Barrie Huronia Soundwaves chapter of the Sweet Adelines. Her positive and genuine warmth, and the gifts of her talents, will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues alike.
Our family would like to express our utmost gratitude to her nurses who provided exceptional care, and who were with her through some stressful moments, but also her peaceful ones. Our deepest thanks to Dr. Worndl for his clear and compassionate manner in which he kept Mom at ease and without fear throughout her experience at Lakeridge Health.
