I am heartbroken to hear of the loss of Mel. I hadn't seen her since we attended Career School years ago but I always remember her as a larger than life woman with a huge heart and a smile that could light up a room. She was quick to laugh and kind and a deeply talented stylist. My deepest condolences to her entire family. The world has lost a bright light and will forever be a much darker place.

Dear Lemieux Siblings:
I was sorry to hear about Mel; Andrew just told me last night. I did not know her well, but over the years we have met from time to time. She was always funny, upbeat, and promised me "the best haircut ever!".

It is with a very heavy heart that I send you this note. Most of my fondest memories of growing up were times spent in Bowmanville with you guys and Mel or seeing all of you at Grandma and Grandpa's house on Alfred St. in Kingston. Though I was much older I always looked forward to the occassions when we were all together. It's hard to believe that Mel (so full of life) is no longer with us. She was one of a kind. She will be truly missed by Laurie and me. I know that the rest of you will band together to help each other through the more difficult moments moving forward. There are so many good memories of Mel to draw from and to dwell on that even in our sadness and as we grieve she still puts on our faces. Bye for now.
Love, cousin Jeff

I am sorry to hear of Mel's passing. She was a flatmate of mine when she first moved to Toronto many years ago. We had many good times traveling to Scooter rallys and enjoying life. She always brought life to the crowd and was always able to bring joy to those around her. My condolences to her family . Jordy Lea, London, England.

I will never forget the joy Melanie brought to my Mother, the day of Olivia’s wedding to Mark. In Olivia’s kitchen, Melanie sat my Mother down and proceeded, without fanfare, to style her hair and do her makeup. The look of pure joy on my Mother’s face, as she saw herself transformed from a pretty woman into a glamorous woman, by Melanie’s magic hands, will stay with me always. Melanie was a talented, engaging, thoughtful person, and will be missed.

I honestly cannot remember the first time I encountered Mel. Tim and I have been friends since we were 15. Mel was just some baby sibling. That would be 1989, for context. When I got to know Mel socially, it was several years later. Mel, to me, was always extremely outgoing. And a very giving person. We ran in similar social circles eventually, but I also got to spend an awful lot of time with her - just one on one, over many, many phases of her life. She was a good person. Not perfect, but good. She struggled with life, as we all do. I think she was often misunderstood. As many of us are. She struggled to be understood, and who - honestly? Who doesn't? Mel had a knack for making you feel like the centre of the world. Not many people can do that. She was a great listener. A great giver. And I was shocked to hear of her passing. She made me smile. She listened, she was very sensitive in some ways. She was passionate. She was full of life and of love. I was shocked when I heard what became of her, and it has taken me some time to muster my thoughts. In short, I am sad that she is gone. In her unique way(s), she was brilliant. And above all - she was HUMAN, with all that entails. Rest in Peace Mel.
