I look at the photo of Marlene and still see the young girl I played with when we both grew up in Bowmanville - the games we played, the excitement we shared waiting for Grant to come home and tell us what it would be like to go to school, our time as Brownies together, visiting her grandparent's farm and jumping in the hay! We held hands the day our parents let us walk all the way downtown alone - we went to Stedman's and I bought a book, The Gingerbread Man. We grew up and our paths led us in faraway directions to different lives - but in my heart, Marlene and I are always friends, running and playing, laughing and greeting life each day with the awe of new discoveries. Now she plays among the angels. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends. Such a loss of a special woman.

I was lucky to have called Marlene my friend for over 30 years and will miss her every day. We worked together, retired together, shopped together and discussed our children together, among many other things.
I know she loved her family dearly and spoke of them often, although the distance made it hard to see them as often as she would have liked. We will keep an eye on her son Martin for her.
My heartfelt condolences to all her family and friends in Ontario.
Thinking of you all, Susan Dalby
