I first came to know Janet in 1975 through our mutual experience as graduates of the Canadian Urban Training Project. We were then directors of United Church community ministries in Montreal (St. Colomba House and Montreal City Mission), involved in transforming their focus from a charity model to one which empowers both individuals and communities. Her gracious manner paved the way for lasting change. Janet was a treasured colleague and her legacy lives on. My sincere sympathies in her passing.
