Obituary of Eunice Mary Heard
(nee Jackman)
In her 85th year
Peacefully passed away at home with loved ones by her side on December 15, 2010.
Beloved wife of John Heard for almost 60 years. Mother of Cathy, son-in-law Paul and Laurie. Sister of Irla Living. Predeceased by brother Ross Jackman and her parents S. Roy and Lila Jackman. She will be lovingly remembered by extended family members, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Eunice was born in Bowmanville on August 22, 1926. With a scholarship to the University of Toronto, she studied to get her degree in Pharmacy. Eunice worked for many years as a compounding pharmacist at Jury & Lovell, Laws Pharmacy and Scotts Pharmacy, all in Oshawa. She began dating John in 1948. They married in 1951 and spent many summers on their family houseboat, exploring the Trent Canal system. In later years, an RV became their vehicle of choice and they spent many winters enjoying the warmth of the southern states. In the past decade, Eunice bravely fought Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma not once, but twice, and conquered many other health challenges along the way. In the end, her spirit was strong, but her body succumbed.
At Eunices request, no Visitation or Funeral Service will be held. Cremation Arrangements have been entrusted to THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville. Eunices family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the loving care and attention given to her by Heather Scott and her exceptional team which includes the incomparable Donna, and others, at Second Nest. Your support and devotion are exceeded by none. You were there for our mother and for us as well; and our gratitude cannot be measured in words. To Marie Rogers, a heartfelt thanks for your support over the years. Much gratitude to Eunices palliative care team who provided additional comfort and peace in her last days and included Dr. Kevin Calhoun and many dedicated, caring nurses and PSWs from St. Elizabeth. Over the years, Jackies weekly, then twice daily, visits were greatly appreciated. Thank you, as well, to Georgie for her regular visits. To Treena, Sharon, and others on the CCAC Staff, Dr. Betty Ballard, and all the medical staff at Lakeridge Health Cancer Centre, Thank you. Special appreciation goes to all the nurses at Lakeridge. Your excellent care, positive attitude and humour made those days easier to get through. Dr. Danny Wus acupuncture and Chinese medicine helped tremendously. To all family members and friends, enormous gratitude from the bottom of our hearts. Your prayers and support have meant so much and are appreciated more than you know. Our family is truly blessed. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be given to your local Community Care Durham-Clarington office through their website at www.communitycaredurham.on.ca or by calling (905) 985-0150.
