Obituary of William Russell Hately

In his 72nd year, passed away at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 of complications of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Russ was born in Bowmanville May 31, 1945 to Alice Eleanor (Jackman) and Walter George Brock Hately who were also natives of Bowmanville. He was the dearly-loved brother of Douglas Hately and his wife, Rose (Robinson) and Merridy and her husband, Mike Marshall; step-father of Karen (Buday) and her husband, Allan McArthur and of William Buday; uncle of Katie (Marshall) and her husband, Matt Shuh, and of Andrew Hately, and of Matthew Hately and his wife Tanya Staples. He is also survived by his great-nephews, Jacob Shuh and Erik and Mason Hately and his great-niece, Kaitlyn Hately. Russ was predeceased by his wife, Bernice (Buday) Hately and by his parents. As well, Russ will be fondly remembered by his cousins and his friends. Russ was a GM retiree and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178 Bowmanville. He was a history buff and we could always count on him for an analysis of political and local events tempered by his wit and humour. Russ also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and billiards and sports. Above all, Russ was a gentleman, a kind, caring, honourable and decent man whom we will miss greatly.
