Obituary of Olga Daphne Orpana

Olga Daphne May Orpana (nee Davis)

Born in St. John’s Newfoundland, January 28, 1936

Died in Oshawa Ontario, September 2, 2024

Dear mother of Louise (Harold) Dunn, Linda (Dave) Curtis, Lori (Larry) Dooks, David (Nanci) Orpana and Lisa (Roberto) Salvati.

Cherished grandma of Bryan, Christopher, Derek, Carlos, Andrew, Trevor, Rachelle, Talia, Alicia, Crystal, Julia, Katherine and Lorenzo, and great-grandma of Moza, Willow, Hannah, Brynn and Amelia.

Pre-deceased by her loving husband Pastor Olavi A. Orpana, husband of 66 years.

Olga raised five children.  She was a teacher, and she never stopped sharing knowledge with those around her.  From Vancouver Island to Newfoundland she supported her husband’s ministry – teaching Vacation Bible School, Sabbath School, and enormously cooking for church potlucks.  She also edited sermons and numerous newspaper articles for her husband.

Olga was very interested in knowing what was going on in the lives of her children and grandchildren.  She greatly encouraged and played a pivotal role in furthering their education.

Being very industrious, she sewed many outfits for her children and reupholstered various pieces of furniture to give them a second life.  She also designed and was instrumental in building two of her family homes with her husband.

Olga was an enthusiastic baseball fan, and enjoyed listening to or watching Blue Jays games, as well as many other sports.

She will be remembered for always wanting to “Brighten the Corner Where You Are”.

A private graveside service will be held at Thornton Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Divison Street North, Bowmanville.
