Erik Frederick Biesenthal

Passed away on July 13, 2024 in Abbotsford, BC at the age of 35.

Devoted husband of Jessica Smart Biesenthal. Loving son of Fred and Ibi Biesenthal. Dear brother of Daniel (Amanda Leen) Biesenthal. Loving grandson of Veronika Igracki. Beloved nephew of Veronika (Miro) Kavur, Erika (Joe) Skula, and Clareleen (Dave) Ivany. Cherished cousin of Jason (Morey) Ivany, Jennifer Kavur, Michael (Sophie) Kavur, Lindsay (Jason) Barry and their children Sienna, Camille, Sawyer, Asher, Arabella, Soren, Sebastian, Lavender and Loic. Erik will be lovingly remembered by his parents-in-law Craig and Marilyn Smart, brothers-in-law Tyler and Joel Smart, special great-aunt Heidi Horvath and family and friends too numerous to list. 

Erik was known for his quick wit, adventurous spirit, and loyal friendship.  His drive and willingness to explore new things and his spirit of wanting to live to the fullest lead him to adopt the motto “WHY NOT TRY”. 

Erik grew up in Courtice and attended Kingsway College in Oshawa.  He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Walla Walla University in Washington State, USA.  His professional engineering career involved designing and manufacturing specialized equipment for mining and tunneling operations.   This work supported projects across Canada and around the world including Toronto. He had the opportunity to travel to projects globally including Italy, Copenhagen Denmark, Chile, London England, and all across North America.

A memorial service will be held at College Park Seventh Day Adventist Church in Oshawa at noon on September 15, 2024.
