The licence plate number on his car is still '16 SGT.' I knew John as my boss at DRP 16 Division, as a great guy, a no nonsense cop who did not suffer troublemakers lightly, a guy you wanted on your side. He had much love for his family and town. Rest in peace, Sarge. You will be missed by many.

John Bird was one of the first Sergeants I worked for in Bowmanville. He was a great supervisor and mentor. He had a good sense of humor and used it wisely. He will be missed. Our sincerest condolences.

John Bird and I were the first two communications sergeants in January 1974 when the D.R.P.S. was created. We had our moments, lots of challenges bringing seven former police depts into the realm of one new communications system, we shared many laughs as we overcame many obstacles. John was a true professional, a great partner and ally. Thank you John for those crazy challenging memories. It was such a pleasure working together to make all work. with the greatest of respect,
