Our sincerest condolences to Doug's family and friends and especially his store family. We moved to Bowmanville over 40 years ago and Doug has been a wealth of information over the years and always so helpful answering our many questions. His smile and greetings will be missed.

Enjoyed many games in the outfield with Doug during the "Brew Jays" era. Always a warm welcome and helpful advice from Doug when we visited the store. Sincere condolences to his family.

What sad news to hear of Doug's passing. His roots ran deep and his presence was felt throughout the entire community. The Abernethy Family was one of the pillars of Bowmanville with their support and involvement in St Paul's United Church, both in the choir, Sunday School teaching and members of the congregation. In business, Doug always had a smile for any customer coming through the door and a great listener interested in the old Bowmanville goings on. The Abernethy Business became more of a family to clients and staff. Our family always enjoyed having a wonderful friendship with Doug which did feel like family. He spread warmth and patience in good times and bad. Our deepest condolences to the family.

I knew Doug and worked out of his store for almost my entire painting career. He was very knowledgeable and helpful when it came to painting. He was always kind whenever I brought my kids into the store and that kindness made me a loyal customer and friend.
Sorry for your loss. He will be missed.
