My condolences. I’m very sorry to hear about the passing of our friend Alan Payne. I was his neighbour across the street until 2008. He was a very kind and generous person, and was very helpful to us in many ways, including watching over my house when I was away for several days as well as looking after my swimming pool. He had a great sense of humor, and we always enjoyed having conversations together along with his lovely wife Jackie.

Very sorry and saddened to hear of Alans passing. He and his lovely wife Jackie are 2 of my favorite customers that ive had the pleasure of serving these past couple years. He always had a story to share with me that would always make me laugh. Ill forever hear him in my head jokingly chiding me as he was waiting to be cashed out, " Come on Tracey, stop holding up the line. Tell your boss its free today" :) Rest in peace now my friend. Heaven is brighter once again as it has gained another beautiful angel♡

Alan was a great character and family man. We were fortunate to have many good times with him and Jackie. He kept very close ties with his extended family with regular visits back to England. It was always a lively time when he got back together with his elder brother Alf.
During these visits, there were many stories told about Alf and Alan’s childhood years in London during the war, as well as their early days on Canvey. One story Lorraine remembers them always talking about is when Alan was home during his merchant navy days. Alan would spend his evenings in the Admiral Jellico and would always call into Alf and Eileen’s home, in Linropin Avenue, after closing time where he kept them talking into the early hours. As they both had to get up early to go to work the following morning, they resolved this by turning off all the lights and pretending they were in bed when they heard Alan’s footsteps walking down the cinder road. Of course, Alan knew this, but the ruse had worked.
We also have many tales of our time with Alan. There was the epic road trip from Toronto to Florida back in 1985. Also, a short break in North Wales where we had been touring all day. On our way back to our cottage, Alan’s car was running low on fuel even though we had ample opportunity to re-fill during the day. Now travelling in the dark along a narrow mountain road, Alan was getting worried as the gauge had been on red for some considerable time when, turning round a sharp bend we came across an AA van parked in an isolated lay-by. We stopped, and as Alan’s luck would have it, the AA man just happened to have a spare can of 4star which enabled us to get home. That’s an example of how lucky Alan was and how lucky we have been to share our time with him.
I’m sure many others have similar, joyful memories of Alan. It really can be said, he had a good life well lived.

Finding the words to express the joy of knowing such a wonderful person is very difficult. What an amazing person and remarkable life. I feel so blessed to have been able to know Al and I will dearly miss his special occasion e-cards that always brought a smile and warmed my heart when I received them. My thoughts and prayers are with the family as you find your way through this loss. May the family find peace and comfort knowing how special he was to many as you mourn the passing of such a wonderful man.

Shelagh and I were saddened by the news of Alan’s passing. We will always remember the many hours we spent in his company, and the never ending bantering that seemed to always be a part of our get togethers.
Alan was always there from the day we arrived in Canada, always willing to lend advice and help whenever we needed it. He was such a warm and loving man with a huge British sense of humour. We will miss him dearly.
Our sincere condolences to Jackie and his amazing family.
