Wiepke “Bill” Wesselius
Age 96
Of Whitby, formerly of Bowmanville, Ontario went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday January 1st, 2024 at Wynfield Long Term Care in Oshawa, Ontario
Wiepke Wesselius was born in Wons, Friesland, The Netherlands on August 8, 1927; the 11th of 13 children to Jan and Feikje (Reidsma) Wesselius.
He grew up on the family farm. After WWII he immigrated to Canada and worked on farms in Southern Alberta. He returned to Friesland and married his sweetheart, “Ali” DeVries on March 30, 1961.
Together they returned to Canada and made their home for a short time in Alberta and later settled in Bowmanville, Ontario where they raised their three sons.
Bill worked on farms, delivered milk for Glen-Rae Dairy and distributed cookies for Hollandia Bakeries.
He loved playing Scrabble, doing puzzles and being outdoors walking, hiking, and gardening. He enjoyed travelling and was an avid reader of history.
One of Wiepke’s greatest joys was becoming a Pake and spending time with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Those who survive him are his beloved wife of 62 1/2 years, Alida (Alice); three sons:

Also survived by sister-in-law, Janny Kuiphof and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, John, and two granddaughters, Andrea and Natasha.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday January 6th, 2024 at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH in Bowmanville with Rev. Shawn Brix officiating. Interment will follow at Bowmanville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 pm. Arrangements entrusted to NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division Street North.
