Obituary of Christina Margaret Smith
Christina Margaret Smith (nee Scott) of Oshawa, Ontario passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the age of 78. After several years of challenging health, she found the strength to make the journey out of the hospital to view the beautiful Lake, sip some tea and enjoy one final sunset. After a short battle with cancer Christina has joined her loving husband, Gerry.
Christina was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 29, 1945, to father Berty and mother Rose Scott. [nee MacFarlain) Christina lived in Scotland until August 15, 1972, when she immigrated to Canada following her loving husband as he continued his career as a highly respected Leica camera technician.
Christina devoted herself to raising her two children and supporting her husband until she found her way to her career as the head cook at Read-Along-Day Care in Whitby, Ontario. Christina not only took pride in ensuring the children received nutritious meals, but she also helped the teachers with the children.
Christina had an exuberant spirit that anybody could see just by looking at her, she was a firecracker and very resilient in the past few years. When she was not caring for her loving husband and family, you could sometimes find her at the local famous pub, The Tartan, dancing up a storm. Christina was an avid gardener and won numerous awards for her beautiful gardens at her home. Christina was continually active; she belonged to a bowling and dart league, her competitive spirit was evident as she would practice for hours and hours at home with her darts.
Her personality was infectious and could often bring others along on an uncontrollable journey of laughing tears. Even in the hospital there were giggles. Christina was a loving supporter of her husband Gerry, her children Carrin and Kevin, and a loving Gran to her three grandchildren, Rai, Ethan, and Eric.
A special thank you to all the friends and family that have been amazingly supportive during the past several years helping with the care of Christina.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and all that witnessed her tearing up the dance floor. A small service is planned for Sunday, November 26, 11:00am, at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division Street N in Bowmanville with a reception to be held afterwards.
