I am so grateful that whenever I think of Jess I can't help but smile and giggle. Thanks Jess for ensuring there is a balance of happy and funny memories to join the tears. We loved working together (and I feel confident saying this because I trust she would have told me if she felt otherwise!). So many laughs shared, bickering over nothing and everything, genuine respect and love for each other. I've been eating and sharing sparkle donuts in Jess' honour and will continue to celebrate her whenever I can.
Sending love to Jess' family (including her chosen people) thank you for sharing her laugh, passion, energy, humour and love with the rest of us!

My deepest and most sincere sympathies to Jessica’s loving parents, siblings, extended family and friends.
One of my favourite Jess memories was on a cold December night in 2019 when we planned to meet up before an industry Christmas party near Yonge/Eglinton. We had each been on the road all day (this was pre-pandemic, so like every other BDM, we had a duffel bag of clothes, multiple outfit/shoe options, makeup bags, etc in our cars, ready for anything!) We got our hair done together. We decided we were hungry, so went to a local diner and ordered a huge grilled cheese. We ate. We shared stories. We laughed so hard. From there, on we went to the industry party, and of course, we had a blast. She was wearing black sequin pants. Jess was FUN!
I visited her at her Port Hope home in June 2022. We spent a day together on sun drenched patios, sharing snacks, cocktails and stories. She toured me around her picturesque town. We ordered dinner in. We watched a chick flick. We went to bed early. I’ll never forget the care she took to make sure I was comfortable as a guest. She had a candle lit for me. A glass of water. A cozy duvet and pillow arranged on her sofa. She was so caring and thoughtful as a host, despite everything she was going through. That’s just the type of person Jess was.
I miss her and will never forget the light she brought into a room.

I met Jessica only once briefly. In that brief encounter she left a lasting impression. Kind, enthusiastic and only willing to help in any way she could. She left an indelible mark. Rare. Shortly after our meeting she learned of her illness and shared; with bravery, kindness and vulnerability and we all cheered her on. Heartfelt condolences to her family and all those who loved her for the tremendous loss. She will continue to love you and guide you from above where she suffers no more pain. God’s richest blessings to this beautiful Angel.

I want her family to know the kindness she showed me when I was diagnosed with my own breast cancer. She helped me make some tough decisions and prepared me for what was coming next. Her thoughtfulness and honesty did more for me than anything else. Jess was my hero. Until we meet again and we will. Love... Marcy Berg

I met Jess in 2008 when she volunteered at AboutFace’s Camp Trailblazers. I was immediately drawn to her smile and positivity. We shared many laughs and stories at camp, and then connected on Facebook when it ended. Jess and I sent NOVELS back and forth getting to know each other. I distinctly remember her calling me on her way home from work one day after a few weeks of messaging back and forth. She said “are you free right now? I’m coming to pick you up to chat!” We spent the next 5 hours chatting the night away and my fondness of Jess grew so much. Jess and I stayed in touch with novel-long updates every few weeks, and I still remember the day she texted me to say “GUESS WHAT?!” And then proceeded to tell me she quit her job, was going on a month long Europe trip, and then had a sweet new gig lined up, but I had to guess what it was. I obviously called her because my curiosity was at max peak! She told me she was going to be working for AboutFace and I was so excited!
As an active AF volunteer, Jess and I worked together very often. One of my very fond memories I have is when I called her to tell her I was nervous about giving a big AboutFace speech to an audience of 400 or so. She gave me a hilarious “Jess” pep talk and I instantly felt better. Jess came by SickKids after I had surgery to visit me. Jess nominated me to become the chaperone of a Disney world trip for AboutFace kids. Jess ‘voluntold’ me for many conferences and events (always knowing I’d be incredibly excited about it). Jess wrote me a letter of recommendation which helped me get into my post-graduate college program. Jess was an incredible friend.
I was heartbroken to learn of Jess’s cancer. The last time I saw Jess, it was at the Princess Margaret walk for cancer. Before I even spotted her face, I heard her infectious laugh. I will never ever forget her laugh.
Love you, Jess. You will be sorely missed.
My condolences to all of Jess’s family. The world has lost a shining light.

I met Jess more than ten years ago, when she was working with About Face in Toronto. I've had a facial difference since age 10 and I heard about About Face through the medical grapevine at Sick Kids, where I was a patient for more than 20 years. Jess was my first point of contact there and I was immediately struck by how warm, kind, and funny she was -- not to mention her passion for helping those within my community, despite the fact that she did not have a facial difference herself.
Jess was the person who first told me about Leap of Faith, About Face's former annual skydiving event that helps to raise money to send children with facial differences to Camp Trailblazers. Because of her, I jumped out of a plane not once, but twice.
We kept in touch on and off throughout the years. She was a reference for me for many jobs, asked about my life, offered congratulations when I got engaged and got married to my husband. She was such a wonderful, warm, friendly, and amazing person and I am absolutely heartbroken that she is no longer with us, so I cannot imagine how painful this loss is for those closest to her. The world has lost a shining light. Rest well, Jess. I'll miss you.
