Obituary of M. Lorraine Tregenza

M. Lorraine Tregenza

Died peacefully at Michael Garron Hospital on October 27, 2023 in her 95th year.

A woman of faith, she walked with God through to her life’s conclusion.  Devoted mother to Gregory Worth and wife to the late Roy Tregenza (d. 2011), the love of her life.  Lorraine was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on January 30, 1928.  Daughter of Rev. Clare Scratch of Essex County, Ontario and Lydia Scratch (nee Hardy) of Belfast, Ireland.  As missionaries, her family were posted to Tsingtao and Shanghai, China.  She was predeceased by her brother Archpriest John Scratch of Ottawa and will be sorely missed by her son, Gregory, nieces, Lydia and Mary, nephews, Gregory, Jeremy, Sebastian, John, granddaughter Earecka and their families along with many friends.

Lorraine had a true passion for learning.  A woman before her time, she earned a master’s degree and held senior executive positions in the healthcare sector.  Graduating from St. Paul’s Hospital school of nursing, Vancouver in 1953, Lorraine moved to Toronto and began her career at Toronto East General and Orthopaedic Hospital.  She went on to become the Administrator at Sheppard Lodge (now Sheppard Village) senior’s home and back to Toronto East General to become the Director of Nursing.  Lorraine held positions at Ceci’s Homes for children, was an associate at Carolyn Sherk Consultants and the director of the senior citizens unit at Woodgreen Community Services.  In 2012, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for significant contributions to the community.

Lorraine will be remembered as someone who was deeply kind, with a genuine interest in others and an amazing ability to see someone’s heart.  Wise, but full of a playful joy and obvious love for life – always creating an occasion, loving nature, Tamarack Lake, the arts and the pursuit of wonder.

The funeral will take place at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 904 Coxwell Avenue, Toronto on Saturday November 18th, 2023 at 3 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Luke’s Anglican Church or World Vision Canada would be appreciated.
