Obituary of Maisie Laura Helen Goodyear

Major Maisie Goodyear (nee LeDrew)

June 17, 1934 – October 18, 2023

Maisie Laura Helen Goodyear (nee LeDrew) was born in Carmanville, Newfoundland and grew up in Change Island, Newfoundland, where she attended The Salvation Army school until 1950.  She accepted Christ into her heart at the age of 9, and became involved in youth activities at the corps.   After working as a salesclerk with the local merchant for 4 years, Maisie entered the St. John’s College for Officer training as a member of the “Soul Winners” Session.   She was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer in 1955 and served for 6 years as a single officer in several appointments.   In 1961 Maisie married Lieutenant Ronald Goodyear and they spent 16 years as Corps Officers in Newfoundland, in such places as Englee, LaScie, Musgrave Harbour, Bay Roberts, Carbonear and Grand Falls.   They were transferred to Territorial Headquarters in Toronto in 1977 where they served for 22 years until their retirement in 1999.

Maisie loved her family and will be greatly missed by her loving husband Major Ronald, of 62 Years, her children Paul (Kimberly), Major Pam, Peter (Roxanne), Pernell (Marina), Perron (Marilyn) and grandchildren Megan (Grayson), Laura (Briton), Katelyn (Jeff), Emily (Michael), Jonah, Samantha, Lucas, Jacob, Robyn and Mackenzie.  Also her great grandchildren Preston, Elsie, Hadley and Penny.  She will also be greatly missed by her brother Duke (Gloria) LeDrew, sisters Mabel Farr, Edna (Rex) Stuckless, brother-in-law Merrill (Mona) Goodyear, sisters-in-law Elaine Janes, Elizabeth Goodyear, Emma LeDrew and Gloria LeDrew, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, along with other friends.  She was predeceased by her parents George & Edith LeDrew and brothers, Curtis and Scott.

Maisie was an encourager, a gifted preacher and loved people.   We rejoice that she is now in the presence of the Lord whom she loved and served all of her life.

The family is grateful to the staff at Peterborough Extendicare for the loving care they provided to Maisie for the last two years.
