Obituary of Adriaan Jan Louws
Adriaan (Andy) Louws
Adriaan (Andy) Jan Louws was born November 26, 1954 in ‘s-Heer Arendskerke, the Netherlands to Pieter and Francina Louws. The fourth born of five children, he was brother to Peter (Maria) Louws [deceased], Janna (Jake) McCullough, Neil (Rita) Louws, Francis [deceased] Louws and Joanne (Tony) Rasmussens. Additionally, he will be missed by his nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
Andy was larger than life, in both stature and character. His silhouette on a country road, effortlessly spinning the pedals of his well tuned bicycles, an enduring image. To many members of our community he was simply ‘the guy on the bike.’ His greetings to friends, acquaintances and complete strangers, effusive, warm, unforgettable. He could meet a stranger along the Bowmanville Valley trail or the Hampton general store and at once be engrossed in conversation. There was an earnestness with which he carried himself. He was uncompromising, forthright and ready with a word of seasoned advice or observation about the world.
Andy was a hardworking, talented carpenter and craftsman. Each project was a masterpiece, complete only when the finish glistened. Chicken coops and wooden tomahawks made with his nephews gave way to restored bicycles, tractors and more chicken coops in recent years.
For Andy, life was marked by peaks and valleys. Some of those valleys were deep, he would acknowledge that. And yet what he treasured never changed: God, country and family. The fellowship he knew imperfectly in life now experienced perfectly with his Savior.
