Since hearing of her death, my sister Faye and I have been thinking about our visits with our cousin Bette. For several years before Gord died, my sister Jean and I, as well as Faye (whenever she was in Canada), went once a year to spend a week-end with Bette and Gord at their trailer in Hermon. Both were wonderful hosts, entertaining us with funny stories, catching us up on what was happening with various relatives, and constantly joking with us. Bette always made sure we were well fed and Gord, of course, always made sure we had enough to drink. What I enjoyed most on those visits, however, were the walks and talks that my sisters and I shared with Bette. We would often walk up to Stringer Lake and, as Faye has already said, we would always walk up to the small Hermon cemetery where many of our relatives are buried. Bette knew exactly where our relatives were buried, what they died of, and what their joys and sorrows had been during their lifetimes. She knew the stories of most of the other families buried in that cemetery as well. My sisters and I were always impressed at how much she knew about our relatives and about the families of her community and especially, how much she cared about them all. Faye, Jean and I appreciated and were tremendously grateful for those visits. Bette was a true joy. May she rest in peace.

I am a few years younger than Bette. We were cousins; my mother was her father's sister. I spent some summer holidays at Aunt Irma's and Uncle Stewart's. When I learned to swim, Bette, Elaine and Charlie a I dogpaddled all the wayccompanied me on my first long swim across the York River. I dogpaddled all the way We played with our paperdolls up inthe attic on rainy days ,cutting out new clothes for them from catalogues.
Often when I came to Canada my sisters, Jean and Donna and I would visit Bette and Gord at their cottage in Hermon. We would take a walk up to the Hermon cemetary to visit our family's graves. Bette knew a lot of stories about our Grandma. We
appreciated hearing about those times. I remember Bette with fondness, may she rest in peace.

I have wonderful memories of Bette and Gordie as they were dear friends of my Aunt Ruth and Uncle Curly…. so since a small child I remember gatherings together.
Bette was so kind to help me when I gave birth to a preemie and having lost my mom at a young age I was struggling those first several weeks worrying if I was doing everything right. Betty and Aunt Ruth would come over and Bette was so kind to me and helped me have confidence as a new mother.
I will always be thankful for Bette’s kindness. May she rest in peace.
