News sometimes travels slowly, even with internet speeds. I've just heard the news a half-year later, but it's no less sad.
Mike was a teacher, a mentor, and a friend. He taught me microcomputer Engineering in the CS department in the mid-1980s.
We attracted him to the Engineering Faculty in the late 90s, where he founded our Software Engineering program.
I still use many of his anecdotes and quips in my lectures. He will be missed by all, and his influence still resounds. -- Roy

Mike was a fantastic person, inspiration and supervisor. He was one of the welcoming family that we met at Western. He had full confidence in my ability as his Masters student and provided many opportunities for me to grow. His work ethic was an excellent example for his students.
Condolences to his family from Mechelle and Curtis Gittens in Barbados. We are saddened by his loss, but recognize the foundation stone that he placed in our lives as part of his legacy.

Sending across my condolences to Dr. Bennett's family. I worked with him for many years at UOIT and was always delighted to hear the stories he shared. The students and faculty/staff have so much respect for how he pioneered processes at the University. He was always kind and shared a smile and many real life lessons with student and colleagues alike, he will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Michael. When I started working at Ontario Tech University (UOIT) he was one and I believe the only professor at that time in that program so I used to spend a lot of time talking to him getting some advice. A memory that I always remember was his office piled high with reading material and classical music playing from the stereo. The halls are so quiet now.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Michael. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Michael during his time at UOIT. You couldn't ask for a nicer colleague. He was a scholar and a true gentleman and he will be missed.
To the entire Bennett family, please accept my deepest condolences.

Dr. Bennett's kind and smiling face created the very first picture in my mind of Ontariotech university (known as UOIT back then) when he was chairing the hiring committee for my interview in 2006. His warm welcome after the interview gave me a great peace back then that even passing 17 years I still remember it. What I always admired about him was his special and unique way of relaxing colleagues and employees in times of pressure and hardship.
I am deeply saddened today by losing a great person and kind colleague. My heart goes to his family. God bless him and may his soul rest in peace.
