I was saddened to hear of the passing of Gary. We worked together at Emerson and had reconnected a few years ago to catch up, and we spoke occasionally. Gary and I could talk about the dumbest things and just laugh! He was always a great guy and I cherish the time we worked together, and i will always remember him fondly. So sorry for his loss, and condolences to his wife, kids and his entire family!

Dear Carol & Dave,
My sincere condolences on the passing of Gary. I remember Gary being such a kind, gentle soul. During the many competitive soccer matches played in your backyard, Gary always ensured the youngest kids got some play time as well. He never gave me a penalty despite my many infractions. The entire Shortt family is thinking of you both.

Dear Peggy, Natalie and Avery, we are so so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. I can not begin to imagine the pain in your hearts these days. I remember Gary best for the chats we had in the street while out on a walk or a bike ride, whether in front of your place or ours. A lot of good old back and forth about the Leafs and the Habs. Our hearts go out to you all. May he rest in peace and watch over you all. …..”back to you Gary”

Gary was the most amazing selfless man! He would always be the first person offering to help. It was a privilege getting to grow up being neighbours with the Burgess family! I will never forget the countless hours that Gary would spend out on the back yard rink with me, and of course the many times he would always come out and help me get the driveway shovelled. I will forever cherish the amazing memories between, may you rest easy

Sandra and I, would like to pass along our condolences to you and all of your family. It was great to have called him a friend and colleague, as we both worked with him for many years. Sharing time a work talking about many things such as his CPA courses or his camping adventures that we know the girls love so much. Playing hockey was another great experience and although he was not necessarily the number one player in the league he certainly kept us entertain with his post game highlights. He will be greatly missed.

Please accept my deepest condolences, our thoughts and preyers are with you at this difficult time.
Worked with Gary at Emerson over 9 years, nice great guy, who loved to laugh and talk about all different kinds of topics, we could talk politics, hockey, ..yes Gary loved to talk about hockey, Slovakian & Czech hockey players, he just knew all of them that played NHL,
Always happy to help and answer any questions, and if he did not have an answer, he would just say, well you got me on that one, I do not know. …
And that is how I will remember him, such a nice great guy.

I was a 9-year-old British lad never seeing a hockey game and Gary invited me to play garage hockey and watch the Canadians vs Bruins in the 1978 Stanley Cup finals. He was such a standup guy way back then and from what I’m reading, finished his life with respect and friendship to all.

My deepest condolences. May you and your family find strength in loving memories as you go through this difficult time.
Gary and I worked together for many years. He was friendly, fun, warm-hearted and loved by everyone in Emerson. He was joyful and had the ability to light up the room.

Where do I start? I would like to pass on my sincerest condolences to Peggy, Natalie, Avery, Dave & Carol Burgess
and their families during this tough time.
I first met Gary at the Durham College bookstore a couple days before our first day @ Durham College.
We were walking aimlessly up and down the aisles looking for our books. Struck up a conversation sharing
some laughs. We became great friends for the next three years at college and lifelong friends. Although, we didn't
always keep in touch over the years, like his brother Dave said to me, guys just pick up where they left off.
Gary was like a son to my parents Mac & Rena and like another brother to my brother Greg and myself.
I once said to Gary, “ Your parents (Jack & Lorraine) were like my second parents Gare. He replied,
“ So were your parents to me “.
I have so many stories. Too many to mention here. But Gary’s lasting impression on all of us will never be forgotten.
When Gary laughed, it always made you feel better. Gary was one of a kind! One of the great One’s!
Say Hi to Jack & Lorraine for me Gary. Know that you all have made my life better.

Dear Peggy and family
I'm so very sorry to hear of Gary's passing. I wish you all the strength and I send all my love during this painful time.
I have many memories of Gary - most of them being Friday nights at Ice Sports...and most of them with him being in the penalty box atleast once per game. Watching Gary play on the ice with my dad and all the other Emerson guys was always one of my favourite things to do, and then hanging out afterwards enjoying wings and things with the guys!
I always thought of him like an uncle. His dad jokes were always superior, and he had a casual, friendly and down to earth personality that just made people gravitate towards him. He will be missed so much. There was nobody quite like him and I'll always look fondly on all the memories. I am thinking of you all.
Love, Carolyn Dlugosz

Dear Peggy and Family, I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. I worked with him for many years at Emerson and whenever I needed any assistance with an accounting issue he was always willing to assist. I saw Gary grow from a bachelor to a husband and very proud father. For years he organized the hockey pool and even though I never watched a game or even knew anything about hockey I would always participate, and then when I won it a few times he would shake his head and laugh. With deepest sympathy.

Dear Peggy, Natalie and Avery
My heartfelt condolences to you.
So many memories of interactions with Gary for so many years; whether working together, your beach wedding, Emerson Christmas Dinner & Dances, slo-pitch and hockey on the Emerson teams, weekly golfing at Spring Creek, having a good meal and talking Seinfeld episodes or who was the best Blue Jay's pitcher of all-time.
Quintus Ennius the Roman Poet said; "Let no one weep for me, or celebrate my funeral with mourning; for I still live, as I pass to and fro through the mouths of men."
We will have those and other memories forever.

Gary's smile was huge and he always greeted us with his whole heart. Gary was part of our Edgerton family. We enjoyed his funny beers on Friday nights, bringing in the New Year, leaving tacky Christmas gifts on porches , playing hockey on the backyard rink and I could list many more. Gary will continue to live on in our hearts. Peggy, Natalie and Avery may your memories stay strong.
