I just found this, my wife and I were students of Mr. Schultz in the 90’s at CSS. We still often talk about him some off my greatest memories of high school are with him. He was a great teacher and man. He helped foster a love of history in both my wife and myself which we have passed down to our children. My belated condolences to his family. I just want you to know his impact he made as a teacher is unmeasurable. He was truly one of the best.

I was shocked and saddened when I heard of Paul's passing. So much so, that I have been unable to comment until now. Paul and I both started work at Courtice S.S. within a month of each other, and ate lunch together almost every school day until my retirement 28 years later. No matter how tough my day was, Paul was always able to make me laugh with his quick wit and dry humour. At staff social functions, which were quite often organized by him and many times at his house, I would try to make a quiet entrance, but Paul would always spot me, throw both arms in the air and yell "REG" at the top of his lungs. I will definitely miss him! My condolences to Trish, and all of Paul's extended family.

Mr. Schultz was a great teacher & a great man, with a great sense of humour. Some of our best high school memories were either in Schultzy’s class, on the baseball team he coached, or had to do with him in some capacity. He was passionate about what he taught & passed his knowledge onto newer generations - if I had to guess, he probably could’ve taught everything without using textbooks. His sense of humour was next to none, he could dish it and take it. I remember grabbing one of the empty wrapped boxes under the Christmas tree in the foyer at CSS & putting it on his desk one year ask I walked into class. Didn’t take him long to realize where it was from, & laughed as he said “Ryan go put that back”. Mr. Schultz was a man worthy of respect, & I’m sure he had a great turnout on Sunday the 27th. A couple buddies and I tried to make it out there & felt bad that we couldn’t in the end. My sincere condolences go to Ms. Bevan (also one of the greater math teachers CSS has had) & the rest of their family & friends. Just know, he will be missed by every student that had the honour of being put in Mr. Schultz’ class

Mr. Schultz was an outstanding man and educator. He was truly passionate and engaged in every subject he taught. I was fortunate to have Mr Schultz for many classes in 4 years at CSS, mainly history and anthropology. I may have not been his favorite student but he was one of my favorite teachers and I respected him deeply. The news of his sudden passing is tragic and shocking. I know all his former students are heartbroken including myslef. Deepest condolences to Mrs.Bevan and the Schultz family. Mr. Schultz will not be forgotten and will be remembered for showing us what it meant to be a caring educator and a genuine human being. Thank you for being a role model Mr. Schultz.

I am shocked and saddened by the tragic news of Paul's passing. I worked with Paul at CSS for 20 years. He was a great teacher and admired by his students and staff. His quick wit is something I will always remember, along with the many memorable Buffalo trips we were on together (SCHULTZIE!!) He loved coaching the school baseball team and cheering on other school teams. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Trish, I'm so sorry for your loss. He was definitejy one of the good ones, gone too soon. My prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Mr. Schultz was one of my favourite teachers in high school. He was funny, incredibly factual, and he truly cared about his students. To this day, I can vividly recall many of his history lessons and feedback he gave me on my work. In teachers college, I did one of my placements with him and he was a good mentor on how to effectively teach history. I've stayed in touch with him over the years and read his books. He would message every year on my birthday; needless to say, he had a knack for remembering dates.
My deepest condolences to his family. Paul, you will be missed by so many students and I will miss our debates about historical perspectives at the Courtyard. I will continue to promote your books to my friends and remember you as I re-read them.

I was a colleague of Paul for 20 years at Courtice SS. Paul was the kind of teacher you would want to have- wielding a deep knowledge of his craft and love(history) in combination with a sense of humor that was deep, accessible to all and never with malice. He could laugh at himself and a situations, and as a teacher, these situations came often and often demanded a light-hearted jab or ironic comment.
We enjoyed many golf games together, sparred at trivia nights over the years, and endured what used to be called staff meetings, knowing that what we were about to hear implemented had a half-life we could tolerate.
I will miss Paul, even though I did not see him much recently as he was enjoying the fruits of his long career, while in retirement.
An outsized personality, a legacy left that not many can match, and many lives touched for the better.
For Trish, prayers for you during this time, and hope for healing during this time of great loss.
We love you Paul,
Tim Mastin

Absolute shock & sadness. Paul was my teacher, my coach, & eventually became a mentor, co-worker, & friend as I began my teaching career at CSS. He was the epitome of what a professional classroom teacher should be, while also embodying what a ‘wild & crazy’ friend is. Some of my favourite memories as a student & young teacher involved Paul. From early philosophical volleyball lessons, student-teacher heart-to-hearts, chases through the streets of Buffalo, trivia night ‘rivalries’ (nobody could match ‘Schultzie’) and eventually staffroom jokes & quips on a daily basis. There was no one else like Paul; truly an original & one of funniest individuals I’ve ever met. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all the students, athletes, co-workers, readers, friends, & family who were lucky enough to know and be influenced by him.
Sincere condolences to Trish & Paul’s family.

Some of the things I will remember are his faux- cynicism, sarcastic remarks, his devotion to the Leafs in our staff hockey pool, the old Seagram’s bag of coins he brought to every poker game, the fact that this law abiding citizen was thrilled to take me out in his “new” T-Bird to show me how it could hit 100mph, his quick wit and the ability to hit you with just the right comment at just the right time and, when I wanted to plan some sort of staff activity, his first response was always, “how much and when do we go?”. But mostly I will remember what a tremendous friend and colleague he was. The world has lost one of its finest.

Mr. Schultz left a lasting impression on me in the classroom as a teacher and on the diamond as a coach. More recently, it was a friendship curated through baseball, rounds of golf and drinks afterwards, Super Bowl parties and poker nights. I’m so lucky I got to know the non-teacher side of him.
I’ll always remember a “Hey Schultzie” I gave him in the hall with snappy “that’s Mr. Schultz to you” back. He was a one of kind. My heart goes out to Ms. Bevan, and all of my former CSS teachers that taught with him throughout his entire 31 year career at Courtice.

It was to build confidence and self esteem. Paul provided plenty of support when I was a student and back then I didn’t fully understand the importance of our conversations until I matured.
