So sad to hear about Doug's passing. My condolences to the entire family. He'll be missed by the entire Clarington hockey community.
Doug was one of my referee mentors back in the 70's and early 80's. I had respect for him and always paid attention to his advice or criticisms. I always looked forward to chatting with him. He was one of the Bowmanville icon rules guys. He had the best intentions for both referees and players and was respected for that. We had many funny times along with the Kennetts growing up in the old Bowmanville Arena.
Doug, thank you for your kind words, critical assessments, and allowing me to be a friend. You will be missed! Rest in Peace sir...

Have fond memories of Doug referreing many many years ago in Mens Town League Hockey......I do remember him
pointing at me sometimes after he had blown his whistle.......penalty deserved usually...:)

I didn't know Doug but he made a big impression on my son Ryan in 2 minutes.My son played for the Lakefield Chiefs and had received a penalty while playing against Clarington.Doug recognized Ryan's last name and asked if he where related to Tim Shaughnessy Ryan's grandpa.Doug told a few stories about my dad in his playing days.Ryan was so eager to share the couple stories to me when he got home.The hockey community is very special because it is filled with special people like your Doug.May he Rest In Peace ❤️

You will be missed Doug Sr.
Thank you for being our hockey coach, equipment manager, referee and time keeper throughout my minor hockey career.
We also worked together at General Motors.
Memory;
Doug(Top Dawg) Matty Mosport myself and our other friends would always hangout in his basement carrying on like teenagers do. He would always come downstairs look around the corner at us and just shake his head and then walk away.

I was saddened to hear of Doug's passing ! I considered him a good friend ! He played goal for me on a Juvenile team in the 60's ! We also played ball together on a Mastergave s Slo Pitch team !
