Dearest Irene,
I think I was about 15 when you were married at Coldwater United on Harriet Street - the same church that hosted the nuptials of Bob and Gladys Plunkett three decades prior. So appropriate! There were so many people at the wedding, all there to welcome this great guy - Bob McVey - to the family. I'm sure the group shots I have posted here were taken right after the groom had cracked a joke, delivered deadpan as usual. He always made us laugh. It was the first wedding I had attended and you were the first bride I had seen in person, and I was in awe of how beautiful and happy you were.
What an adventure you two had together since that day!!!
Marion, Bob, Peter, Monica, Michael and I extend our heartfelt sympathies to you and your whole family. We will really miss Bob's unique sense of humour and amazing positive attitude. Love, cousin Pam

I had both the privilege and pleasure of having worked with Bob first in the control room in Scarborough and then subsequently Toronto. He was one of the few genuinely kind hearted and generous individuals that I have known. We had many laughs and got into more than a little bit of trouble together, no doubt fuelled by multitudinous pots of coffee and far too many cigarettes! However that said when there was an outage or other work to be done he always stepped up to the plate. I quickly became friends with both him and Irene.
Bob recently reached out to me after a decade or so of no contact and it was as if no time had passed. He had the most positive outlook of anyone that I have ever known. He was extremely proud of all of the accomplishments of his family and extended family.
It appeared that his love of lotteries, antiques and junk had not been quelled one bit. His eyes still twinkled with mischief and laughter. He was indeed a bright and shining light in any room that he entered and if laughter is soothing for the soul then it is these memories that shall keep him with us in our hearts.
My most heartfelt condolences to Irene, Andrew and family.

That is a beautiful tribute to a wonderful man. I always looked forward to visits from Uncle Bob and Auntie Irene. He had a filthy laugh that always triggered hysterics with anyone lucky enough to share the joke. He was always excited to share his Goodwill treasures with us. The charity might go belly up now that he won’t be there, rescuing bits from the landfill.
I wish I had the chance to see him one last time. One of my favourite people.
Much love to you and Auntie Irene, Fran and the kids. The world is darker without him.
