I am so devastated to read about his passing. He was my dad's doctor, he delivered me and watched me grow and have a child of my own. He took my daughter on as a patient with no hesitation. I remember being a young child and always getting welcoming hugs whenever we ran into him in public, he was someone I looked up to since a young age, when my family moved I refused to switch doctors. The 50 minute drive was so worth it to have him as a doctor. He will be forever missed. My sincere condolences to his family.

I was truly saddened to hear of Dr. Hoy's passing. To all member's of his family I am sorry for your loss. When I received my letter that I had to go to a new Doctor I was upset, not knowing what he was going through. I was one of his patients whom he took care of for forty years...he delivered both my children. I lost a friend and a confidant in more ways than one.

This is heart breaking news. We have been his patients since he came to Bowmanville. My husband coached his son Greg in hockey & he was a great hockey dad. Cheryl and I were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Paul's sudden death Dec 22. As the senior member of our family health group in Bowmanville, Dr.Hoy was much loved and widely respected by his colleagues and his patients. He set an example that all of us family physicians tried to live up to in our practice lives. Our medical community is a close one and we worked together and often celebrated life's milestones together . Paul and Monica have hosted our medical community many times over the years , and they were always gracious hosts . Paul and Monica attended a weekend retreat at Manresa Jesuit Retreat Centre in October . As the retreat was coming to a close, Paul went to the front of the chapel and thanked Brother Guy Consolmagno who is the Director to the Vatican Observatory , for all that he had offered to us over the weekend. No one could have done this more beautifully than Paul did. His words of gratitude were so thoughtfully chosen and expressed . Everyone of us present, was in awe and grateful that Paul had spoken words that we held in our hearts but could not express. I watched Paul over the weekend and couldn’t help but notice how attentive he was to Monica and how they shared so much together. Hearing of Paul’s death from his good friend ,Michael Hyland , was devastating . Monica , please know that I will keep you in my prayers for a very long time and know that when Paul met God , face to face , he would have been warmly welcomed and thanked for spending his life , sharing his gifts to all he met along the way. We were so heartbroken to receive the news Christmas Eve that Paul had passed.
So grateful, that we saw him a few weeks prior and had such a wonderful visit discussing his future with such a positive resolve.
We thanked him for seeing us, as he was running off to the wonderful lunch awaiting, that Monica would have for him.

Dear Monica and family,
As you know, Paul was a very dear friend of mine. I came to Bowmanville a couple of years after Paul. He was a great mentor to me at the beginning of my medical career. His spirituality was enlightening. We shared good times and many laughs socially and at hockey and cubs. Our sons, Greg and Marty, grew up together.
More recently, during Covid, Roseanne and I often met you and Paul while walking. We were so encouraged that he decided to cut back and make moves towards some degree of retirement, but sadly, it wasn't meant to be. He was the most dedicated colleague that I've ever known. He was so full of life and energy that it's almost impossible to accept that he's gone. We loved Paul and will miss him profoundly.

Dear Monica and family, we were shocked and saddened to hear of Paul's sudden passing, he will be missed by all that knew and loved him. With so many fond memories of my Dr., friend and teammate, one personal memory I would like to share is. Whenever we would be in his office the conversation would always end up around some of our hockey exploits. He loved the game and was a awesome teammate. Always the last one in the dressing room but ready to go once the game started. The memory we most often shared was our championship win at The St. Michaels hockey for heart tournament. Dr. Paul Hoy was known to so many. Great doctor to so many. My mother-in-law, Bride McKee (Lunny) had the pleasure to work at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital, where her paths crossed with Paul. Gentle, kind and great sense of humour. He was also a acquaintance to my parents, Jose and Ilda Fernandes. Both my mother-in-law and mother have passed away. We were heartbroken to hear about Paul's passing so suddenly. He was a true gentleman in all ways. We knew Paul and Monica as our children attended the same elementary school and then Paul recommended Trinity during the "dark" days of education.
