Obituary of Marilyn Ann Kerr
Marilyn was born in Weston, Ontario.
In Grade 8 she met a very tall boy named George and felt sorry for him, she thought he was so big. Three years later, he won a 50 cent bet with his friends when she agreed to go on a date. After studying nursing at the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto, she married him and they moved to Blind River, Ontario. In their 62 year marriage, they raised five children and travelled to as many continents. On Rotary Club trips, she administered polio vaccines in India, worked with AIDS patients in Tobago, and taught English in Thailand. In Brazil, Marilyn, an avid bird watcher, identified 60 different species. As a nurse, among many other duties, she delivered babies at the Blind River hospital, and later joined the Victoria Order of Nurses, caring for people in their homes. She supported her community. Meals on Wheels Blind River recently recognized her 30 years of volunteering, she also volunteered with many organizations including Victim Crisis and Referral Service, the Lung Association, the Blind River Skating Club, United Church Women, and as a Pastoral Care worker. In the grocery store, she always looked to buy produce or milk that was Canadian. She was a big shop local advocate. She loved music, was a leader of the St. Andrew’s United Church Junior Choir, and played piano in church for many years. She played a nun in the WC Eaket High School’s production of The Sound of Music.
Marilyn passed away peacefully on December 2nd surrounded by her cherished husband George, and her 5 children, who were her pride and joy. Over the years, when asked what she wanted for Christmas, or birthdays she’d say “All I want is good kids and peace in the world”.
