When we hear the expression “the stars were aligned” & “soul mates”, we realize it must refer to Brenda and Dan. There is no doubt in our minds—their love confirms it.
We remember years ago, meeting them in New York for (American) Thanksgiving, their excitement in seeing us and catching up was a thrill. Although it had been a while, we marveled that we picked up right where we had left off. We didn’t miss a beat. Brenda thought it was absolutely cool, Dan was crazy about the “boffo” time we were having. It was cold and rainy as we watched the parade, but it didn’t matter, their warmth for us was genuine and we all had a fabulous time! We could have started our own parade . . . it would have been a blast. And Brenda would have been in the lead!
Later we headed to the Metropolitan Opera to enjoy “Parade” with sets designed by David Hockney—one of Dan’s favorite artists. It really was magical. I sat beside Brenda, and I recall (after the lights dimmed) her turning to Dan and commenting as the sparkling lights overhead disappeared into the darkness—“Dan look, don’t the lights look like stars.” She just stared at Dan, you could see their own sparks fly!!
Boffo!
We went to comedy clubs, our favorite hidden food haunts and then off to dance like crazy into the night! We didn’t want it to end. Of course we knew it would be reignited whenever we met again . . . right where we left off.
We will always remember those wonderful, happy times, and many more. Thank you.
With much love,
M+M

My fondest memory of Brenda is one that brings a smile. My wife Melissa and I, and others, were guests one winter at Brenda and Dan's cottage. While we were all lounging around one morning, I noticed that Brenda was working on a substantial crossword puzzle. The next afternoon, she picked it up again to continue working on it. In the interim, I had surreptitiously completed a number of the answers and had taken pains to do so as close as I could in her handwriting. I was seated next to her as she started mumbling something to herself while looking increasingly perplexed. She eventually glanced over at me as I was unsuccessfully trying to stifle a laugh and then complained that she couldn't believe I did what she accused me of, which of course, I had. Even though I had clearly broken crossword etiquette and Brenda wasn't totally amused at first, the two of us shared a hearty laugh together that day. Brenda was a good sport, and a good person.

Dan, David and Rachel: To say I am very saddened by this news would be an understatement. Brenda was a dynamic and thoroughly unique individual. She was a mentor to many, including me, and well-respected in her field. She had the gift of being able to inspire others to see the possibilities she saw. That's rare indeed. Kevin and I send you our deepest condolences and wishes for you all as you adjust to life without her. Sincerely, Joan Murray
