We lived beside Derrick & Karen in their first apartment on Stevenson Rd. Years before that, we enjoyed beers with Derrick, sometimes at the cottage near Minden. He was always smiling and joking, fun to be around. Karen & Tyler & family, we are saddened by your loss of such a sweet man, he will be missed ❤

I am sorry to hear about Derrick's passing. He lived on Hazelwood and I lived at Jeanne Crt. He was always smiling and he certainly loved his music. I would see him from time to time, and we would share memories and stories about the old neighborhood, St Paul's and what ever happened to.... When I last saw him about three years ago, I remarked that he looked so much like his dad. He smiled and said I got my hair from Dad.
My sincerest sympathies so Sharon and his wife Karen and Derrick's children and grandchildren. Derrick was one of the good guys.

Our sincere condolences to you Karen. We were so surprised to hear about the sudden passing of Derrick. We moved onto Clearsky Avenue the same day almost 21 years ago, when there were only a few houses on our street. Always a cheerful smile and hello. Taken too soon. Take care of yourself Karen, you are in our thoughts.

My heartfelt condolences to Derick’s family, the news of his sudden passing was a shock.
What a lovely person, who will be deeply missed. I had the pleasure of working with Derick at General Motors, he was always singing, smiling and playing an air instrument. Derick was one of the very few that made the factory a more enjoyable place to work especially during some not so fun times.

Words cannot express the sadness in my heart for having lost such a wonderful person and for Karen, Tyler and family. He was a loving husband to my very dear friend Karen, a dedicated father to Tyler and loving grandfather to Gia and Wes. God puts special people into our lives for a reason and he was definitely a very special person. To the hours spent singing with him, enjoying meals with him, laughing with him and all the family, I'll miss him dearly. God bless and keep him.

Liz and I were so saddened to hear of Derrick's passing. She had gone to school with him and I had the pleasure of working with him. When he first transferred to my work area, Liz told me that we would hit it off and she was right. Same taste in music, same work ethic and the same sometimes warped sense of humor. He truly was a fun guy to be around, whether it was singing all the time at work or just a few of us sitting around the dining room table picking a few tunes. Although we will truly miss not having Derrick in our lives...we will never forget him. Shawn and Liz Carr

Our heartfelt condolences to Karen, Tyler and the rest of the family. There are not enough words to describe what a great guy Derrick was and his impact on others. A true family man and genuine friend to many. There were a lot of great memories; a lot of songs sung and great friendships formed with his band mates of the Overtime Band. Always remembered, never forgotten. Don and Barb

Derrick was an awesome man, and a great friend. He was a wonderful bass player with a terrific sense of humour. I always looked forward to playing music with Derrick and we loved the musical kitchen parties at his house. He made the drives up to Oakwood to play music with the guys enjoyable and at times hysterical. I'm glad we got to play that last session with Don and Marco in my "music studio" basement just a few weeks ago. His stoic and courageous attitude towards his cancer diagnosis was inspiring. Every time I pick up my guitar I will miss Derrick beside me. Our condolences to his family, they were his life. Good bye "bass man". You will be missed. Tom smart
