I produced Tom for several years while he was doing the 6:30 weekend News at CFTO. He was the most professional and down to earth anchor I have ever worked with. One night we took two reports live from NBC and turned around a third. I can't think of anyone else who could have pulled that off. Tom and his family will be in my prayers. Peter Durrant

I want to pass on my sincerest condolences to the Gibney family on the passing of Tom Gibney. I sat beside Tom in the newsroom for many years and enjoyed wonderful conversations with him. He was always a very nice man with a warm smile and an excellent broadcaster with a great booming voice. He was a huge part of the success of CFTO News and always a true professional. I hope everyone is doing as best as they can at this difficult time. Rest in peace Tom.

Dear Donna and family - sending love and hugs to you all from across the pond in Harlech, North Wales.
I have lovely memories of Gary - he was such a sweetheart with that big beaming smile of his- my first visit to Canada back in the late 70's and one of the first things my Aunty Joan did was introduce me to the wonderful Gibney family- many happy afternoons spent at their pool- they made me feel so welcome.
A particular memory is having a traditional English afternoon tea at my Aunt and Uncles farmhouse, it was was Gary's birthday and I carved a watermelon basket and filled it with fruit and made a sponge cake with the lettering Tom Who? Piped on it.
I am so thankful we were able to meet up one final time on my last visit back in 2018.
You are in my thoughts Donna- love to you all.
R.I.P Gary xxxx

My condolences to the Gibney family on the loss of Tom Gibney. I knew Tom as a neighbour in Whitby, during the late 1970s when son Daren was one of my best pals in high school. I remember his big smile and easy manner, even at times when we were behaving like goofy teenagers. And his reputation for top-notch broadcasting professionalism is well deserved. Rest in Peace, Mr. Gibney.

As neighbours and long time friends we have many wonderful memories of Gary. It's hard to imagine we won't hear his contagious laugh again. He had a great sense of humour and he endured endless teasing from my dad whenever he saw a very tall Gary, walking his very small dog (pug).
He actually came to the rescue of one of our dog's who got her foot caught in a trap that some idiot set in the woods near our rural house. My dad was not home and my brother and I were not strong enough to get the trap open so we called Gary, even though he was understandably nervous of our rather intense German Shepherd =), he bravely opened the trap and our dog was released in surprisingly good health. He was a kind person.
Our thoughts are with our dear friends, Donna, Brady, Darren, Jodi and Mona. Our hearts go out to the many family and friends who are feeling the hurt that inevitably comes with grieving the loss of a very special person.
Much love Joan & Heather Milburn

Dear Gibney Family,
It is with great disbelief that we learn the unexpectant passing of Tom.
He was that trusted news anchorman that people watched and tuned in to listen. He delivered the news with grace, his face was honest and trustworthy.
He was my mom’s favourite anchor. She never missed watching him. He was the family’s favourite too. He certainly was exceptional and his deliverance of the news was exemplary. He had an awesome radio voice. There won’t be another Tom Gibney because he was one of a kind! On behalf of my family, we send our heartfelt condolences to his family.
He was greatly missed after he retired. Always remembered, never forgotten. Rest In Peace!
Prayers sent

I think of you often and loved time with you and Gary.

I produced Tom for five or six years when he was also reading the weekend news. I'd been watching him since I was a teenager and was in awe when I was first introduced to him. He was so nice and laid back and he could tell I was nervous so he use to jokingly call me 'Nervous Normas" He was also a lot smarter than most people give him credit for. I remember there was a plane crash in Los Angles and the only feed coming in was at 6:30 when we went to air. We took two reports live and turned around a third. He was so smooth and calm and pulled it off beautifully. I can't think of another anchor who could have done that and I have worked with a lot of them. Going to miss you "Gib." My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Many memories to reflect on with Gibs passing. Sharing drinks at numerous events where he enjoyed the “big orange” and remembering his hole in one at the Gator golf course in Myrtle Beach. Always had a few laughs accompanying him to the 649 draws where shirt and tie were visible from waist up but shorts and flip flops below the podium. Wonderful friend gone too soon. Rest In Peace. I had the absolute pleasure and honor of working with Tom for 15 years at CFTO - from typewriters to computers. I never recall a day in the newsroom or at the anchor desk without sharing a good laugh with "Gib". He helped make my tenure at 9 Channel Nine Court a spectacular experience - more like summer camp than a job. When I left CTV in 2004 to begin a contract in Texas, Tom was the first to call me and extend congratulations. A class act always. Rest in Paradise Tom.
To the Gibney family, kindly accept my deepest sympathies for your loss.

I did not know Tom or the family personally but was very sad to read of his passing and offer my heartfelt condolences. When someone like Tom joins you in your living room every night, via television, and does such a stellar job of delivering the news he becomes like family. Not every anchor evokes such a feeling. Tom was special in that way.
