My Condolences to Wally's family. Very grateful to Wally for the kindness he showed me and my wife, Laura, when she had a massive stroke in 2000. Wally showed me what leadership looks like at that time. Sincerely Keith MacDonald.

I worked at the Bowmanville plant for a few years prior to Wally retiring and socialized with him at many of the Goodyear Retiree functions over the years. Even played Golf with him the odd time . He certainly did like Golf, from what I understand. Sad to hear the news, condolences to his family.
The photo was taken at the Goodyear Bowmanville Retiree Lunch from December-2012 .

Walter was my cousin and one 23 first cousins on his Mother’s side - the Bland family. Walt and I kept in touch and shared many laughs as well as tears while reminiscing about the times we lived through together. Walt kept in contact with his many cousins and supported them in their endeavours in life whether it was in boxing or horse racing - he was there with his encouraging smile that would light up any room he was in. One of my fondest memories of our times together was when his sister Susan and I visited him in Venezuela. After flying from Caracas to Valencia over mountains in a small plane we were met by Walt at the airport who asked how was the flight? He then informed us with a big grin that we were braver than him - he would not fly in a small plane to Caracas - he had a driver take him by car. That was Walt and his wonderful sense of humour - I will cherish the times we spent together until we meet again.

Rest in Peace Mr. Hicks! One of my fondest memories was the Newcastle Figure Skating Club and the Dad's performed a skating routine to "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee". Wally came dressed as a woman, blonde wig and all and his skating skills were perfection. I will always remember the great big smile and being very proud of his family. My heart goes out to Ingrid, Sheri and family as well as Shannon & Kevin and Family.

Best Grandfather that ever walked the earth! There are not enough positive synonyms that I could fit into this text-box. Love you forever Grandpa. I will never forget you.
I'm sure the greens are wonderful in Heaven. You will be missed but never forgotten. If I could be half the man my Grandpa was in life, I would be the happiest man on Earth.

We are saddened to hear of Wally’s passing. He was a great mentor to all of us and his passing will never take away the legacy he left with us. I worked with Wally at the Bowmanville Goodyear facility for several years. He was a great mentor and friend. We enjoyed our time at work and our many golfing events with the Goodyear Bowmanville family and Ontario Rubber Group as well. Our condolences to the Flintoff and Hicks families on their loss.

Our deepest condolences to Wally’s’ family and Lynda. I first met Wally shortly after I began my career at Goodyear Bowmanville in 1969, primarily meeting up at Ontario Rubber Group meetings, and i worked closely with him in Bowanville since the mid eighties. Over the years we travelled on many business trips throughout Canada and the USA, when Wally always seemed to win the gin rummy games on the plane rides home. Mary and I spent many an enjoyable evening with Lynda and Wally, over supper and a game of Phase 10. Over the last several years we also played the game he enjoyed most, golf, each week with several other retirees and friends. His fellowship and humor will be missed by all.

We are very saddened to hear of Wally's passing. Our sincerest condolences to the Hicks and Flintoff Families.
I worked with Wally for many years at the Bowmanville Plant. There were certainly many memories to look back on. It was not just about the work, but also the Christmas parties, and Summer picnics for the kids. The Terry Fox walks. There was so much more than work to bring a smile when looking back at all the fun and good memories we had at our little plant.
Rest in Peace Wally.
