Brain was my hero! I remember traipsing into John Field Music in Edmonton every Saturday for my guitar lesson with Brian. He taught me how to play all the cool songs from the 60s and 70s as well as the music theory behind those songs.
Because of Brian I went on to play and teach professionally all over Canada and the States.
His legacy of teaching and playing is one that I still try to emulate. I hope you know how many thousands of people you have given the gift of music to.

Brian was not only my brother, but my best friend, even though we were miles away we spent a lot of time talking on the phone, yes he always had a joke or two, sometimes I would have a joke or two myself. We laughed a lot, and could talk about anything. He was really proud of all of his family and loved them so much. With Brian being only a year older than my twin sister and I, we were really close growing up, and all of us were very musical. Music was a life line and passion. Even when I shared with Brian that I was teaching myself to play the piano, he encouraged me and gave me lots of tips, one in particular was that he told his students if you want to play fast you have to practice slow. Now everytime I sit down at the piano, Brian your words will resonate within me. From the bottom of my heart I love and miss you more than words can express. I am consoled to know that you are now reunited with our Mom and so many of our loved ones, rest in peace your baby sister Carol

My son Jayden was taking guitar lessons with Brian for 4 years. Since starting his lessons with Brian, my son has become an avid and skilled guitar player.
I enjoyed sitting in the for the majority of the lessons and was always blown away with Brian's guitar playing and teaching skills. Brian has been a great influence to my son. It takes a village to raise a son or daughter. I am most grateful for Brian's wisdom and advice that he shared with Jayden and I as we are both better people for having got to know him. I don't think Brian ever fully realized the impact that he has had in my son's life and I will always be thankful for that.

We at Upscale Music Studios are heartbroken at Brian’s sudden passing. His last teaching day was Thursday and he mentioned once again how much he loves teaching his (20) students and how teaching made his life so meaningful. He spent the last month compiling hundreds of songs, complete with chords, into a gigantic binder that will be his legacy to students here at UMS. His eternal legacy, however, will be the knowledge he passed to all his students and to the encouraging words he gave to them as well as to any student that was in the waiting room. I will miss Brian as a friend and confidant and his words of wisdom, support and encouragement to me personally as a business owner and fellow musician that he has given to me for the past six years.
Rest In Peace Brian.

Brian was a remarkably unique musician. He encouraged his students to provide lists of songs they liked while also teaching theory. Kieran, our grandson, loved his time with Brian and has developed a similar love for his guitar. Yes, God now has more than an accomplished musician on His hands. Try to behave, Brian. We miss you.

Brian was a wonderful, talented, happy and very loyal person and was loved and enjoyed by all who knew him. He was a dedicated employee of Walters Music in Oshawa for many years and was treasured by staff and customers alike for his pleasant and helpful approach. He always had a great little joke of the day - - or somedays, many and had a twinkle in his eye and a great gift for relaying the stories on to others. I mourn his sudden passing and send my deepest sympathy to all of his family. He will be greatly missed here on earth, but I won't be surprised to hear a few giggles from the back row of God's angelic choir when Brian takes his place in the back row. Heaven will be a brighter place with him there. God bless all of you. Ashton McMaster
