We are saddened to hear of “uncle Elgins” passing. We met uncle Elgin when my daughter Victoria was delivering the local paper here in Bowmanville. He had an infectious smile and was always so happy to see us. He quickly became a friend of our entire family and would honk his horn when driving past our house. Once he and his wife moved to Oshawa, the relationship faded but he has forever touched our hearts. We learned of his passing today (Nov.2/20) and are so heartbroken

Good memories of the Heard family as I grew up in Enniskillen. Their home was at the "end of the sidewalk" where we roller skated and more times than enough - one of the members of the Heard family picked me up when I went too fast down the hill and ended up on their lawn! Enjoyed a visit with Eleanor at the Enniskillen Public school reunion a few years ago. Many years ago Elgin was the snow plough driver and was so kind to his wingman, my father-in-law, Harry Worden. A good person has left us.

To Wendy and all of Elgin’s relatives.
It is with much sadness I read of Elgin’s passing. I enjoyed working with him at the MTO his energy and zest for life was admired by all. Elgin was the one who encouraged me to put in for an advancement at the MTO and helped me prepare for the interview. In future years as Operations Manager of the Sea to Sky Highway I thought of Elgin many times and how fortunate I was to have taken his advise.

So sorry for your loss. I recall speaking with Elgin several times throughout the years. I previously lived next to Doris Hall on Lambs Lane and then when they moved to Oshawa, I often ran into him and we'd catch up on his runs back to town. He was forever a busy man with lots to get done to help others.

Grandpa, a friend of ours sent me a quote that I think sums things up nicely, "There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains."
