Obituary of Mary Dawn Taylor

(nee: MacDonald) Take her in your arms Lord Handle her with care Make up for all she suffered And all that seemed unfair Mary Dawn Taylor, in her 73rd year past suddenly at her home on the evening of May 13. Predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years Barry, parents Bud and Clara MacDonald and sister Iris Sutherland. Mary leaves behind her cherished daughter Lesley Kristine and her husband Jason Stevens. Her “special boys” -- grandsons Jackson Nathaniel and Carter Trent. Mary was a long time employee of Bell Canada, (45 years) and a devoted volunteer to many organizations; The Telephone Pioneers, ROSE Volunteers, Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and the Bowmanville Museum. A very proud Canadian, one of her favorite projects and passions was The Canadian Armed Forces, providing support by facilitating and sending Tim Horton’s gift cards to troops stationed in Kandahar to enjoy a little taste of home while miles away. This project was very dear to her heart and continued long after they came home. For her dedication and support to the troops, Mary was the grateful recipient of the Canadian Armed Forces Medallion for Distinguished service. This medallion is the highest honour a civilian can receive from the military. As well, Mary was honoured with the Queens Jubilee Medal for her lifelong work in volunteering. Beginning earlier this year, Mary began working with the Valhalla Project, more specifically the VSD Program (Valhalla Service Dog). This program provides full training to support dogs which in turn go to individuals (Oath takers and Veterans) suffering from PTSD. Mary was so proud to meet her first service dog to be trained in this project – Mary named her Rose. Due to our unique times and at Mary’s request, there will be no formal service. She wished that for those who cared to always remember the good times. At a later date (tba), a celebration of life for Mary will be held so that all those who knew Mary may join together and celebrate a woman who gave so much, to so many, hurdled more leaps and challenges in one lifetime and truly loved and cared for all those she knew. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowmanville Crematorium. Final arrangements are handled by Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, Bowmanville. Mary will be laid to rest alongside Barry at Pine Hills Cemetery. Memorial Donations for those who desire would be greatly appreciated to either the Clarington Animal Shelter or ROSE Volunteers, so that Mary’s beloved projects can continue running to help and assist those in need.
