Obituary of Jerry Roy Everett

JERRY R. EVERETT With heavy hearts, we sadly announce that on February 12, 2020 Jerry has left the building. His final fire has been put out. He prided himself on winning his battles with words. He led a good life and had a peaceful death, but the transition was a tough one. He did not lose his battle with cancer, the cancer died so technically it was a tie! Beloved spouse of Heather Capon. Father of Michael (Kieu) Everett and Tracey Everett (the late Ken MacRae), grandfather of Rachael, Minh, James, Kanae, Shannon, Alyssa, Michelle and Kyle and great-grandfather to Benjamin. Dearest twin brother to Larry Everett, Mona Everett (the late Lloyd Colwell), Eva McLaughlin (the late Lyle Giberson) and nephew to Frank & Bob Arenburg. He will be lovingly remembered by Heather’s family, her mother Margaret Noble, daughters Brooke Capon (Kyle Bryans) and Meaghan Capon (Derek Hall) and grandchildren Aaron, Emma, Rylie and Brayden. Sadly missed by his best friends Earl MacKinnon, Deb Abraham and former spouse Iva Everett. The family would like to express their extreme thanks to the staff at both Lakeridge Health Oshawa and Bowmanville for the outstanding care that was shown to Jerry. Honouring Jerry’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details will be published once finalized. Memorial Donations may be made to Durham Region Cancer Centre. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank Raymond and Mona Geneva (Arenburg) Everett and his brother Gary Everett. Growing up on the family farm in Beaconsfield, New Brunswick, Jerry was forever active, peeling pulp at 9 years of age; he was also known to catch wild rabbits with his bare hands. At the age of 40 he bicycled from his home in Bowmanville, Ontario to his mother’s place in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick. Jerry was honourably discharged after 5 years from the Air Force, only to join the North York Fire Department, serving for 27 ½ years. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #178. His time came to step down from the train, leaving his seat empty but leaving behind beautiful memories for those of us who will continue to travel on the train of life. Unable are the love to die for love is immortality.
