To All the Weststrate Family,
My parents were neighbours of Joe and his family many years ago and my Dad was an employee of Joe's. We had the upmost respect for Joe. When my Dad got sick Joe was very compassionate and fair and was there for him! When I stayed with the bindery until the end, I remember Joe coming, purposely, to thank me. That was the kind of man he was. He was a kind and respectable man. He will be missed by many but will be remembered for the kind and wonderful person he was and how he touched so many lives!
May you be comforted at this difficult time knowing that there will be a new day dawning.
Sandy Dorsett

Dearest Opa (Opa - squared to my kiddos)
I remember all of the special times you spent with me and with my babies.
I was your girl. The only one amidst a gaggle of grandsons. Your support through my childhood, adolescence and into adulthood has been immense. No one can replace you.
After Oma died, and your first great grandchild was born, you found a new reason to get through the day. I think you cam to visit baby Jay every day for over a year. He was your little man. We are so blessed to have had the time with you that we were given.
Thank you for the memories...the love, the gentle push in the right direction. You helped me through the death of my parents and I cannot imagine how you felt losing your wife and two of your beloved children. Life went on. You were a strong, stubborn, simply amazing man.
I love you forever. I cannot wait to see you again when the Lord reunites us all again as a family.

Opa, words cannot describe what you meant to me. You were a grandfather and father in one. You accepted me as one of your grandchildren and treated me as if I was your own. I saw how you and Nana (Felicia) were with each other. It showed me exactly how a relationship should be. You were one of the kindest and most caring men I've known. In the short years we had together, you gave me constant support in all my ambitions - becoming a Chiropractor and buying my first home by myself. If I needed help you and Nana were always there without hesitation. I saw the way you looked at Nana while she dedicated all her time to take such good care of you for the last few years. You loved her so much. I'll miss our time talking about life, watching TV and giving me life advice. I will take care of Nana now. I'll make sure she has a great life with me. Miss you forever and love you always. Rest in peace.

We wish you all the strength you need now. May God give you that strength and may the people around you give the comfort and love you deserve.
Thanks for the way you all took care of our beloved uncle Jo. We will see him soon.

Mrs. Joe Westrate & Family: I and my family were rather saddened to hear of Mr. Joe Westrate's passing on Saturday when you Mrs. W. called my dad yesterday. But as he was bedridden & in pain & suffering we are glad he is free from it. Whether on the phone or on my & other family members tours of College Woodwork (led by Mr. Westrate himself), or at various furniture shows across North America, we shall always remember Mr. Westrate as a true man of class, & as a great leader who really knew the furniture business well. He treated our family & our stored Koopmans' Furniture graciously & we were proud to be a CW authorized dealer!
He truly led CW with distinction & did it very well. He even knew when it was time to step aside & work part time in a secondary role to provide guidance to Mr. George Sittlinger & his successors gleaned from years of sage leadership as a wise mentor. An honourable man & a great community minded person, Mr. Westrate will always be remembered by his family & friends. A life well lived!
Graciously, Rory J. Koopmans & Family
