Obituary of John Edward Hand
John Edward Hand passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 1st, 2018. He was doing what he loved, golfing with his golf buddies. He left us too soon and in shock of his passing, but was welcomed to Albert and Artie Hand’s golf two-some in Heaven.
He is survived by his patient and loving wife of 25 years, the party planner, tropical vacation companion, the straight-man to his comic relief, Wanda; loving children Katrina, Alysha, Connor, and Stephen; Mother, Anna Hand; sisters Sheila Furlong (Mark), Michele Stevens (John) and Tina Hand; Brother Jim (Elaine); cousin Marie (Mallon) Jensen; and their children. Wanda’s brother Gene Paradis (Darlene) and sisters Rebecca Wilson (Ian) and Paula Doulas (Gus) and mother Tererse Paradis. He is preceded in death by his father, Albert Hand.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BR. #178, 109 King Street East, Bowmanville, on Tuesday May 8th from 3 – 5 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation through NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville, with whom arrangements are entrusted.
John was born in Toronto on February 7th, 1960. As the oldest of five Hand children, John paved the way for fun times and lots of laughter at the Hand household. The earliest home movie is of John, age 9 months, walking down the hall with a beer bottle in his hand. He grew up loving sports, especially golf and tennis, and honed his card, darts, pool, and poker skills with the priests and Father Henry Carr HS. He took after his father with his love of a good time, a fabulous meal, a joy of life, a big grin, wee slits for eyes and a deep hearty laugh. He never met a stranger that he wouldn’t give the shirt off his back to and would always help a friend in need. He loved a good party and a good water fight!
