How does one reflect on more than 10 years of a dedicated employee. Terry left a mark everywhere he went, he was kind, helpful, smart, funny and reliable. He worried about everything until he had it all figured out, and he would figure it out and more. I will miss, our chats on the phone about garlic, strawberries and trackers, and our walks in the Center For Food fields to observe the bounty of his efforts. He took such pride in his work. He always spoke fondly of his daughters and we compared stories of our grandsons. I will always refer to the Durham College Center For Food Whitby gardens as Terry's garden, he dug the first patch with his own hands, he removed each piece of construction garbage, he planted each seed, he nurture each plant.....he will be missed. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

I worked with Terry at the DC North Campus. We were two of a kind - 'old school' - always doing what we could to maintain the lab equipment . Many times he brought over something ancient from the Science labs and asked, "Do you know anything about this, Dave?" To which I usually replied, "Nope, so let's take it apart and see if we can figure it out." Most of the time we managed to make the equipment last until the end of the term and/or until a newer replacement was obtained. I really missed him when he transferred to Whitby but I knew that, because of his knowledge and experience, he would do well there. He dropped by occasionally when his work brought him 'up North' and we picked up where we left off - sharing stories, experiences, and laughs about the students.

It is with great pride I say I had the privilege of knowing and working with Terry for about 10 years. I taught him as a student, and worked with him as a colleague. He was, and is respected by those who worked with him. I gained a new appreciation for black garlic and I never knew anyone could be so passionate about strawberries and melons. I walked through the Whitby Campus the other day and felt him everywhere. He will live on here. With much sadness that will hopefully soon move to smiling with the memories, I honor Terry and wish the best for his family and friends.

Terry was a kind, warm-hearted, genuine and passionate friend and colleague. When you met him, you knew instantly you liked him.
He worked tirelessly in teaching, laboratory and field technologist roles at the Durham College, Whitby campus.
He painted his story through a masterpiece he created in the greenhouses, orchards, beautiful gardens and fields, sewing the seeds with his gentle hands as he spread his knowledge and skills to students, faculty and the community associated with the Horticulture, Food and Farming programs and the Centre for Food.
Terry has left a tremendous legacy when you look at the campus and reminisce about the memories he has created. We will affectionately remember 'Rigby Fields" and how he had touched so many hearts.
Terry, you are truly missed........Fly high and soar with the angels.
Sincere condolences to the Rigby family.

The Whitby campus at Durham has definitely lost a great man and colleague.
This week walking around the campus I was still waiting for Terry to pop around a corner with his big smile and joyous attitude. Always wanting to engage in a quick and sometimes long conversation or just “stir the pot” :) His dedication to all he did around the college will be missed. As We walk by the orchard, greenhouses and our gardens I’m sure we will all think of Terry for many years. My thoughts are with Terry’s family and friends during this very difficult time.

I worked with Terry at Durham College for only a short while, but that was more than enough time to see how kind-hearted, helpful and cheerful Terry always was. My program is borrowing lab space for the year, to which any technologist would typically be royally annoyed with. But not Terry - he welcomed us with open arms and never complained once that we took over the majority of the lab time and encroached on his space. Not only did he welcome us, but he was so instrumental in getting me set up to run the labs these past semesters and was always happy to help if I needed to bounce ideas off of someone.
I have heard many instructors and staff mention your name over the past week, and every single one of them has had the most positive things to say. You have touched a lot of hearts and will truly be missed by all.

To Terry's Family,
So sorry you've lost a dear one and suddenly too. It must be a very difficult time for the entire family and friends of Terry. His passion to help, teach and support others will be remembered for a long time to come. May the good life he lived and the beautiful memories that you shared with him comfort you all and keep you going. Also may the comfort the scriptures provide also lighten your sorrow at this time. God has promised a time, very soon when he will remove death forever, tears, pain and suffering will be gone for good... (Revelation 21:3-4 , Isaiah 25:8) More comforting is God's promise to bring back to life our dear loved ones now sleeping in death. They will come back to an earthly beautiful paradise to enjoy life in health, strenght and peace with all their loved ones never again to fear death... (Acts 24:15 , Psalms 37:11 ,29)
That's the life we all look forward to and it will be a reality, made possible only by the Creator of life! May these sure hope give you the strength and courage to carry on, knowing that soon you will be reunited with Terry, never to part again.
Best Wishes to you all,
Lauretta.

My husband and attended school with Terry. He always had a smile on his face and was such a character. Always friendly and willing to help. I remember dancing at Bowmanville High Schools 24 hour marathon dance in the early 80s. Watching him dance and laugh. Will miss you Terry!
