Harold, or 'Mr Dooks' as we children affectionately knew him, became a treasured figure in those precious memories spent as a schoolboy at Crawford Adventist Academy, 1984 - 1993. With a friendly wave and ready smile, he'd pass on by, beaming from high atop some fascinating machine.
As springtime found him tending to acreage of rolling green on the grounds of Branson Hospital, we listened for his mower on the breeze, out of sight but nevertheless close by. Perched upon its towering seat - the king of all he surveyed, he was the picture of contentment, the master of his craft. When Autumn found us in the newly fallen leaves having strayed just a little too far, he continued on with the midday's work, but kept a watchful eye. Keeper of the maintenance yard too enticing to keep little boys out, we set up a game of cat and mouse to try each tractor out.
My picture of this happy man, on his mighty green mower I shall not soon forget. A friend to many young and old, whose generosity and gentle spirit will be sincerely missed.
Goodbye Mr Dooks.

Heartfelt hugs and condolences to Janette and family. I shall always remember Harold for bringing tears to my eyes when he gripped my five fingers with his four; as a man who followed my family from the Maritimes to Ontario, and from Willowdale to Bowmanville. Perhaps, for that reason, on so many occasions, when Harold and I made eye contact we instantly knew what the other was thinking about the circumstances we were involved in. Harold was one of those kindred spirits that come from Nova Scotia, and I can't wait to finally follow him to the great and glorious kingdom where he was headed.

I just wanted to express my condolences on Harold's passing. Our families go back many years in fond memories and friendship. Looking at pictures of Harold in the quartet with my dad, Don Soper and Wayne Loxdale. I look forward to that great time when we can all be together again. God bless you and keep you.

My sincere condolences to all of you at this very sad time. Harold was a wonderful kind and caring man. He will always be "Santa" to me for the many years he took on the role at the Branson Hospital Christmas parties (That's going back a few years!). Hope you can find comfort in the many people who loved him who share your grief.

Nobody can replace a good dad. Your family has been greatly blessed. I know the next good-bye will be hard, but from personal experience I can tell you the good memories will grow more precious each day. Cry when you need to. Then remember to laugh over a terrible joke or embarrassing event. Each one is important. What a joyous day when we all reunite in heaven. Much prayer for all.

Dear Janette & family,
What a loss , Harold was such a big help to us right from the start of our move to Warkworh, his advice helped me get the water pump working. he took such good care of our place when we were away, we enjoyed our visits , the good food Janette , and the games. it was good to see Harold smile when he won!, and still cheerful if he didn't. His reports from Pug-wash and Myrtle beach were so interesting. they were a tradition. The day he told us of the bear that took the bird feeders down and messed them up, and when the apricot tree had the frost , so many memories what a joy it will be at the resurrection to see Harold and to find out what God has prepared for those who are his children. We send you our love and condolences and prayers at this time of your loss.
Your grateful old neighbors,
John & Milly

I am so grateful that God put Herald in my life at a time when I needed a strong male role model and friend. As a child in Halifax, I have fond memories of Herald singing in a quartet with dad. In 1979, I moved to Toronto to continue my University studies and Herald just took me under his wing. I think I may have been at his home more than I was in my apartment.
I remember - The countless hours talking with him; eating many meals at his home; never being able to beat him in tennis or ping-pong; he laughing at my silly stories; putting quartet music together with Jack and Ron; helping me move multiple times; and yes, treating me like family. He was there for me; he was both friend and family.
Even after we moved far away, I frequently thought about Herald. He had a real impact on who I became. Just last Sabbath I sang with a male quartet using the orange Hooper book; "Dooks" on the front cover. I had a chance to afterwards tell the guys about Herald and what he meant to me.
I will be praying for his loving wife, Janette and his boys, Daryl, Larry and Gary, that God's wonderful peace and amazing grace will be felt in each of your hearts their during this time of sadness. Herald is asleep and awaits the final trumpet when we can all be together in God's heavenly kingdom.
“Do not let your heart be troubled. You have put your trust in God, put your trust in Me also. There are many rooms in My Father’s house. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going away to make a place for you. After I go and make a place for you, I will come back and take you with Me. Then you may be where I am. " John 14
Your tears are but for a short season, great joy awaits at the upcoming family reunion in God's loving presence.
