I learned of Hugo Schonhaar's passing only in the last year or two.
I am now a 57 year old woman who had first attended the Toronto Baptist Church when he and Jennifer had only two children. I remember how Hugo invited me over to his family's house in Pickering on my first church visit.
He also trusted me to lend me his Jeff Godwin VHS videos. He also gave me TTC transit tokens without being asked.
A miracle happened one Sunday morning on my way to the church. I did not eat but was so hungry. Then people were handing out yogurt cups on the street and this hungry woman got a few! Praise God!
I moved to Winnipeg in 2007. My condolences to Jennifer, his children, and to all who knew him.

Dear Hugo:
It's been many years since I have last spoken to you. I have to to tell you what an honor it was knowing you and what you have done for my Jewish community. I will always thank you for asking me to play piano at your funeral. I am here today, with 2 little girsl and my wife, explaining what a great person you were. You even trained me to get my secuirty guard license at Iron Horse Security. I have kept that certificate to this day.
Thanks for leaving a long lasting impact. G-d bless you and soon, we will reunite.

I first met Pastor Schonhaar in the Spring of 2004 when I attended the Church where he preached and remained there until this day. Many things about him impressed me: he took a stand for the truth, he defended the Jewish people, when I told him that I wanted to reach out to women who are involved in prostitution and strip clubs he didn't flinch he was 100% for it. He encouraged others in the Church to get involved with the outreach. He had calling cards made for me to give to the women and he even suggested that he drive me and other Church members to reach women in one of the largest strip clubs in Niagara Falls (he and another man stayed in the van while another woman and I went into the club). The management at that club were touched that we would drive about two hours to come out to give the women little gifts that contained gospel tracts and calling cards. He even offered to help any women who were in danger to get to a place of safety if they wanted help. His desire was to also reach the homeless and the hurting. He helped me when I had a need. He was faithful to soul winning going door-to-door and passing out gospel tracts on the streets. Pastor Schonhaar's life is a testimony that he obeyed the gospel.

Baruch Dayan HaEmet: Today in the Yom Kippur Torah portion of the Torah, it opens with the names of Aaron's two sons that were taken early by Hashem. It is said that they are mentioned on the Day of Atonement to show us that Righteous people can contribute to bringing G-dliness into the world by their deaths, as the mourners and congregants are inspired to do repentance over the terrible loss. Hugo was definitely one of G-d's Righteous people, and many of us will be inspired to be better people in his honour, while at the same mourning his loss. Hugo, his wife and children were always such visible supports for everything good in this world, an inspiration for anyone who met them. I hope Hugo's love of Israel will continue down through the generations with his children.

THE LORD BE WITH THEE, to Jennifer and all family and friends of Brother Hugo, may this time bring you closer to my Lord and Saviour. Praying for you at this time of sorrow but remember that Brother Hugo is now with his Lord and we too who have called unto Jesus as their Lord will be with them as well. Our Heavenly FATHER is in control of all things and just remember HIS ways are higher than our ways. Trust in HIM and may HIS Holy Spirit comfort you as you draw closer to our God. Looking forward to that meeting in the air with Jesus and our loved saved ones.
