Auntie Peggy was my grandmother's cousin but she was the best sort of Auntie you could wish for, having the sweetest nature, the kindest soul and a ready smile to light any room. As a child I loved her long, chatty letters to my family and had just the best time when she came to England in the early 1970's, she promised me when she left as soon as I was old enough I could come and visit her and meet the rest of the family and see a part of her world. True to her word, a few years later (actually 40 years ago this month) I came to Canada and had a fabulous 3 weeks with her and the rest of the family that has stayed with me since then and always will. I cherish those memories and the memory of a wonderful woman.

The Mighty Oak
A tribute to Aunt Peg
by Brent Gerald Dearling
Aunt Peg once said to me at Ski Hi (Sky High), in the middle of a cribbage game, “You know, Brent my name is not Peg, but Peggy Florence Orr”. She added “I am not a clothes peg”.
We are often defined by others, and Aunt Peg was no exception to this. She was Peggy to herself, the government, and workplace HR departments; but to us she was always, and always will be Aunt Peg. Unlike others, whose morals and customs are easily swayed by the changing winds of time, Aunt Peg stood strong like the Mighty Oak which grows beyond the little Wee House at Ski Hi (Sky High). The kindness and love she showed her family, friends, and everyone she met was genuine, strong, and large. Like the Oak, she provided shade from the heat of peoples lives, by lending a kind ear, or an empathetic shoulder to cry on. Aunt Peg stood strong and constant in offering sage advice free of sentiment, yet delivered with an empathetic grace that was unparalleled.
Though we mourn Aunt Peg’s death, we have forever been changed. She leaves us with a legacy of genuine love and kindness. We can now see the forest from the mighty oak that nurtured it.

I am sorry to hear about Miss Orr's passing. My sympathies to her family. I was her elder at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Peterborough. Imagine my surprise to find a cottage connection between us. My father Baxter Smith was a good friend of Peggy's and our two cottages are separated from each other only by Reeds! She was a beautiful lady.

Aunt Peg, you weren't my aunt but you were a loved part of our family. You were one of the finest and truest ladies ihave met. I can only picture you with that warm smile you gave to all.
I am thankful to have known you. You set a high standard for warmth, decorum and kindness.
May you soar with joy wherever you are now. Always remembered, always missed.
