Obituary of Foeke Rypstra

Born October 21, 1928 in Cornjum, Friesland, The Netherlands Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, Foeke went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday February 16, 2012 Born and raised in Holland, Foeke served in the Royal Netherlands Marine Brigade in Indonesia from 1948-1949. He was also a member of the Dutch Marine Veterans in Canada. Foeke immigrated to Canada in May 1952, where he lived in Newcastle until moving to the farm in Newtonville in 1956, where they stayed for the next 55 years. In 2011, they moved to an apartment in Bowmanville. He worked for General Motors for 32 years, retiring in 1985. He married Grietje (Jenny) de Jong on October 24, 1953 and they were blessed with 4 sons. Survived by his wife Grietje (Jenny), 4 sons and their families, Ray and Julie, Terry and Elaine, Ed and Sylvia, Mark and Julie, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by 1 grandson Andrew in 1998, his parents, 3 sisters in Holland and 1 brother in Canada. Visitation will be held at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, Hwy 2 & Haines St. on Monday February 20th, 2012 from 10 – 11 am. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 am. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made to Memorial Hospital Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville.
